"Some people don't like change, but you need to embrace change if the alternative is disaster." ~ Elon Musk*
I give Hasbro tremendous credit for (at least) attempting to adapt/evolve. Like it or not, crypto-collectibles are clearly the wave of the future. Hasbro is wise to jump onboard now (to avoid being swept under). Though nothing is without risk, so before anyone goes "all in" on NFTs, they should read this excellent article from Artnet: https://news.artnet.com/opinion/slee...rsonne-1960744 *One of maybe six white dudes (in the entire world) who are actually worth listening to.

While I mostly agree with you Mud Wasp, I'd say crypto-collectibles have the POTENTIAL to be the wave of the future, much like the Beta Max, 3D TVs, HDVD, Laser Disk and a ton of other new tech that fell to the way side. Testing it out and getting onboard early is a good idea though.

I have to say, I am seriously not keen on the environmental impact of most NFTs. It really seems an incredibly destructive and wasteful way to have a sticker book on one's smartphone..
And yes, I'm being simplistic and sarcastic, but the issue of running up a small nation's energy bill to create and maintain the exclusivity of an online image is a real and serious one.

I seen this coming. NFT's are really hot right now in the Trading Card Market. From my understanding it is a way for companies like Hasbro, Topps Etc to continually make money off the sale of their IP's even on aftermarket sales. Personally I don't see the point in owning any type of digital collection whether it's Cards, toys, movies or video games for that matter. I prefer to have something physically in my possession. I do not believe that this is an unhackable format as like any lock sooner or later someone will find a way to crack it open.

If I remember correctly I think there was a tanker on here that was far ahead of his time and was doing this a few years back with his "digital GI Joe collection"

Why anyone would want to collect digital cards is beyond me. It seems completely pointless, for anything other then bragging rights.

I completely agree. But apparently these are done in very limited numbers creating a little supply in demand inflating the prices tremendously. I know a few collectors who I looking at these as the way of the future for collecting. Since this is a digital item you never need to worry about the loss of value due to degradation which is apparently a major selling point for some collectors

Shit, at least with Pokemon Go you're actually out in the world getting sunshine but here you're literally just buying the bragging rights to say you have bragging rights.

So far as I understand the situation, you pay real world money for a digital number code called an NFT granting you the ability to say you own an NFT of someone else's image without being a liar. And if you're lucky you can sell that NFT to someone else for a profit while Hasbro gets a cut of the transaction - and even if you sell at a loss. Any person anywhere on the planet can see both the image and your NFT code in full for any reason at any time without paying anything to anyone. I'm seriously at a loss to imagine something stupider to spend one's money on. 5poa action figures for 50yos, women's panties from OnlyFans, autographs from celebrities you haven't met, clothes designed by Kanye West, etc... all *INCREDIBLY* stupid things for an adult to spend hard-earned money on but this NFT shit tops the stupidity cake for me. |

Shit, I'm gonna sell NFTs of my custom action figures. I'll let y'all buy and sell codes to figures I make according to my standards and desires and keep in my possession in perpetuity while you all pay me a cut every time y'all buy or sell an NFT of one of my figures.
Who'll give me $50 for NFT #1 for my Falcon custom? $49.95 for NFT #2! https://m.facebook.com/james.gouldsm...6550749406183/ |
