Jeez, the Dollar General line looks like Pursuit of Cobra compared to these.

I don't understand the angle behind producing hot garbage just so you can have it at a lower price point. How does that help attract people to your brand?
Its like Charmin making thin, one-ply with the thought that people will hate how their fingers poke thru and they get poop on their hands - so they will in turn sell more of the good, thick 3-ply stuff. Marketing baffles me. |

In the scheme of things what makes this "hot garbage"? The mold, the paint applications, what?

Same principle: parents who might be buying for their kids who want GI Joe might be more inclined to buy a figure at $10 rather than $20. By making something "not up to collector standards", it improves the chance of consumers actually finding stuff in the midst of the feeding frenzy collectors are in over Classified. Most consumers still view toys as disposable things for kids, and Hasbro has made a line that fits in that perception.

At first glance I thought this was Dollar Tree Final Faction Wave 2. I will be more excited when they reveal their 4" collector's line for the movie.

That said, you do have a point that lines that look like "hot garbage" don't really ultimately move the needle as far as longer term collectability. For instance I would argue that the larger portion of Joes long term popularity is due to how well designed and built the line was from day one. Will this new movie line stand the test of time? Likely not. But Hasbro needs product that feeds the beast in many different ways and likely this line is a throw away cash grab and they are comfortable with that. |

These honestly wouldn't be bad as 4" figures. They'd be about on par with the first Amazing Spider-Man 4" movie line. Not the greatest figures but I still like a lot of those.
If there were some sort of evergreen budget 6" Hasbro Heroes line it would be one thing. But they're all disjointed banner lines with no internal momentum. Stuff made for no other reason than to make sure another company can't put toys in that space for a few months. |
