I don't see how an extra year to reshoot Last Jedi could have gone back to fix the problems that started in The Force Awakens.
I'll always hate how Rey - an untrained Jedi who had only discovered her powers days earlier - and Finn - a stormtrooper with all of ONE mission under his belt - both stood toe to toe with Kylo Renn in lightsaber battles - a Jedi trained by Master Luke Skywalker since birth.. I hope you have a handy explanation for how a farmboy with 10 minutes of practice can successfully conduct a prison break from the most secure location in the galaxy, survive his first dogfight and bend a best guess torpedo shot 90 degrees while you’re at it, slick. I don’t even like the sequels but I detest hypocrisy even more. All I ask is that people at least be fair and consistent with their criticisms and apply them evenly across the board. As for reshoots, it’s standard practice on a lot of productions these days, I’m not inclined to worry about it. |

To be honest, I'm just happy we're getting another live action Joe movie. What with this, the new Jurassic Park, Godzilla Vs. Kong, and a handful of other movies, looks like we're in for a ton of awesome movies over the next couple of years.
Edit: Plus the reshoots could be similar to the GvK reshoots, where they wanted to change the time of day from night to day and had to reshoot all of the establishing shots. Last edited by GenericSchlub; 03-16-2021 at 10:29 AM.. Reason: added more info |

Hmm, let’s see. A film where they consistently show Chewie’s blaster is like a frickin’ 50 cal on steroids. A scene where Chewie blasts Kylo in his ribs with said blaster, badly wounding him in the process. Hmmmmmmm, I have no idea how Kylo could be off his game and not fighting at full capacity, none at all. Even then, he quickly dispatched poor Finn, who was out of his depth but still game enough to try.

As for reshoots, it’s standard practice on a lot of productions these days, I’m not inclined to worry about it. Luke really plays just a small part in the prison break. Obi-Wan, Han, Chewie, R2, 3PO and Leia herself are vital to the escape from the Death Star going off. Additionally, the Empire let them escape, remember? As for the dogfight, it's logical to suggest that most of the pilots on both sides -with the exception of Vader and a few veterans- haven't got much experience in dogfights. It's been what, 30 yrs since the Clone Wars? It's like what Viper is talking about in Top Gun, the art of dogfighting has probably been mostly forgotten. I'd also suggest R2 is probably assisting Luke in flying the X-Wing. Additionally, Luke had wingmen covering him most of the time. And finally, he'd still be dead had Han and Chewie not intervened. As for the proton torpedo, I always assumed it caromed into the shaft instead of exploding on the edge, given that it appears to be an energy weapon. None of it is one-on-one combat between the hero & the villain, so it's kinda apples and oranges. I think you are correct that the wound from Chewie was supposed to explain Darth Lame's weakness at the end of Disney 7. The problem is, he never seems tough, or smart, or clever, or imaginative, or imposing at any time in the first two films (I haven't watched the last one, TLJ convinced me to stop giving Disney my money). He fails at interrogating Rey, he fails at fighting Rey, he fails at fighting Rey again. he continues to fail, even after he's healed. He never proves himself to be a good villain. It really all boils down to one question, though. Is there any way, even wounded, that Darth Vader would have lost to Luke in one-on-one combat in the original Star Wars film? The answer to that is a resounding no. The end result is that Luke has to grow to defeat Vader. If your hero has nothing to overcome, then they have no journey, no real story. This is one of the fundamental failures of a lot of modern movies. Heroes aren't given time to grow, villains aren't ever allowed to be on top, really. They just sort of skip to the end right away. Any victory feels kinda cheap and the characters end up really dull. But that's all off-topic. As far as the reshoots go, I totally agree. It's common these days, and it likely won't make a big difference in whether the film is good or bad. Last edited by SnowCat; 03-17-2021 at 12:18 AM.. |

Hmmm... I think the reshoots could possibly be for mid/end credits scenes. Maybe something to tease a sequel or another characters origin movie. Maybe something to make it more authentic feeling, kind of like Mortal Kombat is doing as far as trying to be authentic and true to martial arts, etc. Maybe the overwhelming positive reaction to the Mortal Kombat trailer is motivating them to change or add some things to this movie. This is going to be a great year for martial arts and Asian actors, with Mortal Kombat, Shang Chi and Snake Eyes movies all set to come out within the next 12 months and all featuring martial arts and a lot of actors of asian descent.

I remember as a kid being annoyed when Snake Eyes was revealed to have blonde hair. He was a cipher before that, any kid could think that the character looked like them originally.
In terms of the Snake Eyes origin story, if following the comics, the only relevant point is that he was an outsider who went on to impress the Hard Master more than his nephew. What colour hair, skin, etc. is pretty irrelevant to the overall storyline. One thing to ponder regarding this movie is we'll probably end up learning Snake-Eyes real name. I can't imagine them calling him Snake-Eyes all too much before he becomes a ninja. Could be his nickhame/callsign in his military unit. I think we'll learn his first or last name in the film. There's no way reshoots for this movie have anything to do with the Mortal Kombat trailer. That's about the silliest idea I've ever heard. I do think some of the reshoots could pertain to another GI Joe project. We just heard about the Lady Jaye show. That should could be farther along than we thought, with LJ already being cast. Or another Joe movie could be far along in development and these reshoots could be working in some threads/characters who will appear later. But almost every big feature has reshoots scheduled. Sometimes they're only a few things to help tie elements together or punch up a character or storyline. Nothing to really worry about. I take it as a good sign Paramount/Hasbro is willing to put up more money to make the film better. |

Does it really matter though? Once he becomes Snake Eyes, he's silent and as far as the audience is concerned always has a mask on. So pretty much at that point isnt the main concern physical presence and badass ninja-ness?

I really don’t understand why people are so upset over snake eyes being half Asian. No one seemed to care when he was a middle aged Scottish man in the last series

Why would Henry Golding (or any actor, actually) be interested in playing a role as "thankless" as that? So either he won't be appearing in any of the sequels, or this is going to be a very different interpretation of Snake Eyes than ever seen previously.
