Super exciting announcement. Looking forward to seeing what they do with the show.
I've been a fan of 24 and Strikeback and love the espionage/special ops genre. While watching those shows, I always thought GI Joe could be done in a similar way. Obviously, you'd be limited with vehicles and sets, but Cobra as a terrorist organization with some crazy plan being tracked and stopped by some Joes would work as a TV show. Hopefully, this show approaches the awesomeness of Strikeback but with GI Joe and Cobra characters. Amazon also has the Jack Ryan show which is decent. Weakest part if Jack Ryan himself. With a Lady Jaye show, you potentially have someone similar, intelligence officer, but depending on casting a potentially more charismatic character. We've seen plenty of women kicking ass movies and tv shows, so this shouldn't be hard for anyone to see the potential of the concept. Also, Lady Jaye will not be the only character in the show. Certainly, she'll be working with other characters. While they may not be Joes, there may be some cool world building with specialists helping here and there. So I think we'll see some other Joes who may or may not be members of GI Joe yet. Maybe Lady Jaye discovering the existence of Cobra leads her to being recruited into GI Joe. I do think they'll dance around Cobra a bit. Lady Jaye will probably start tracking plots and characters who are tangentially connected to Cobra. Little hints at a secret organization who was financing the bad guys. Things like that. Maybe a character like Scrap Iron who is never going to headline a movie. Lots of potentila. Remember a Chuckles movie was being developed at one point. I'm guessing it was going to be inspired by his IDW comics which had an undercover Chuckles infiltrating Cobra. I can see some of those ideas being used for this show. Anyway. I like the potential behind this show. I like the Amazon shows I've seen. I love GI Joe. The brand has a lot of potential. I really like the idea of being able to develop the characters and their world via a multi-episode format instead of trying to cram a lot into a 2hr movie. Looking forward to future reveals and development of the show. |

I agree with all of that Ash. It will be interesting to see how they do this. Will it be the adaptations from 10-15 that barely resemble the source material? Or will it lean into the world of Joe? Either way this could be fun.
