This has been my strategy for these Retro figures:
SE: I plan on making a Plague team so I have been slowly picking up 1-2 here and there when I see them. I haven't counted exactly, but I probably have enough for a Plague team and a little more. I want to keep one carded to put on the display box I got from WM. SS: I was able to get 6 initially to make my Ninja Viper team. I have about 3 more for some possible Ninja customs. I also have one carded for the Display box. Baroness: I got one to open, and one to keep carded for the display box. The one to open is mainly to put that head on a 50th body. She is my 2nd place Ultimate Baroness behind the SDCC one. Hiss Driver: I bought 3 tanks with drivers. I traded the tanks for 3 more drivers. I now have my squad of 6 drivers. They can drive my POC Hiss Tanks if needed. I kept one box to put on the display box. Crankcase: I got one AS with CC, mainly for the AS and the CC head. The head is mainly custom fodder for whatever comes up. Scarlett: I got one off eBay to use her head and legs for my Ultimate Scarlett. I will probably get as many as I find, mainly for the legs and head. They make good custom fodder. I have one ordered to keep carded for my display. RB: I have 2 on order. One to open for the hands and head, and one to keep carded for my display. Destro: I have 2 on order. One to open and one to keep carded for the display. Fang: I will not be picking this up unless somehow the pilot turns out to have 50th Joe parts, not modified ML parts. That copter will not be part of my collection. Lady Jaye: I have 2 on order, one to put on the display and one to open as my ultimate LJ. I don't mind the 50th figure, and the face print will be an improvement. I can always paint the hair if it turns out to be black when I get her in hand. CC: I have one on order, mainly to get free shipping with the LJ's. He will probably stay carded for the display only. Duke: This figure will not be part of my collection. I'll use one of my extra 50th Flints to make into a Duke. EDIT: Sorry. This post was meant for the WM thread. Oh well.

Actually, the wave 1 vehicles were released here in Brazil last month or so and the figures are coming this month, at least supposedly.
Off topic, Classified figures were also released here, including Baroness with COIL (this one, pretty plentiful). We don't have Target stores here, it simply came as a regular release.

Your Ninja Vipers were a great idea for those SS figures, too!

I'll say that what I see right now, between the reissued Duke and the kitbashed FANG does not give me much confidence in this line surviving long.

I’m not a fan of Retro in general. Hasbro is pretending these are amazing figures but the parts they are using are mostly bad. Baroness can only stare at her shoes and Duke is just terrible.

I guess... I mean, I don't understand this take. No self-respecting company is gonna shit on their own product, so why are people acting like they shouldn't be saying these are cool toys? Besides, eye of the beholder. Obviously, plenty of consumers think they're good enough to buy since the preorders sold through again. They are flawed though, no doubt. Baroness' shoe-gaze in particular bothers me because Hasbro has long since proven they can build a figure that can look straight ahead, but that toy was created a decade-plus ago, so that's not an issue we can blame on the new guys. Maybe that's the real problem though. Maybe us old farts are mostly just sick of the same product over and over again. For people just getting into it though, they seem to dig all the offerings...just like we did a decade ago.

After a week of reflection, I am no longer as upset about Duke. I've been with the fandom through the RAHC days, and I am familiar with knowing that sometimes molds get separated, and yes, it takes time and money to switch around parts. I do not know what budget Retro has to work with. We don't know if they still have access to the parts we think they have. Hasbro IS in the process of moving some production out of China and into Vietnam and India. It is possible that some Modern Era stuff is in transit or has been lost in the shuffle. Or worse, the Chinese government has straight up taken some stuff in the past.
I remain disappointed, just to a lesser degree. I think it's the little stuff adding up. Using retro art, but the figures not matching is annoying. I still don't get why Snake Eyes didn't include the commando head. And I feel that these "Fan Friday" panels just don't respect older fans AS MUCH as previous establishments. I can remember a time where there was more honest and open interaction with the fans, but then GI Joe was a bigger brand than it is at the moment. I sometimes forget that. It takes a year or more from concept to retail, so these were being planned when there was going to be a movie to bring in new fans. It is possible that the movie being pushed back meant Hasbro had to scale back budget. It would be nice to know the reasoning. I wish this team could be more forthcoming. It is possible to give us bad news, or reasons something can't happen, WITH promotion. |

Having said that I have no issues with people who like this line and I do not want it to fail. Some folks like the deco and some folks didn’t get these the first time so that is a win for them. |
