The more I see/read about this, the more cautiously optimistic I become that the movie might actually turn out kinda sorta good. Definitely not like "Fury Road" good. Or maybe even "Atomic Blonde" good. But still pretty good.

At the very least, shouldn't be very difficult to exceed (everyone else's) expectations.

I always thought they would go more towards a blade runner type direction. Seems like the most realistic type of representation of what GI Joe is. Futuristic tech and what not. They are bound and determined to ride the ninja bandwagon as far as it goes.

This may be a bit "outside the box", but I wish the filmmakers had looked to "Kill Bill Volumes 1 & 2" for inspiration. Both in terms of how to present a compelling revenge narrative, and in the staging of swordfights stylistically. Plus it's impossible to deny an animated assassination sequence such as this ...

... would be completely off the chain.

And yeah, I get that Robert Schwentke is nowhere close to Quentin Tarantino's level. And Henry Golding is no Uma Thurman, either. (Obviously.) Doesn't mean they couldn't "catch lightning in a bottle", though.
