When you Google "Sgt. Slaughter", the first four additional search terms that come up are (in order) "gi joe", "stolen valor", "action figure" and "dead".
Not interested in slandering anyone (plus pretty sure the Stolen Valor Act no longer even applies at this point, anyway), but is there any truth to those accusations? (Because I saw some rando on YouTube just absolutely ripping the Sarge to shreds over this.) And if so, I'm wondering if Hasbro might be able to negotiate his price down to get a better deal.

There are decades of evidence of Stolen Valor on the part of Robert Remus, and none of it is that kayfabe stuff. The only problem for him is that every time he is exposed as a fraud, he doubles down and lies some more. At this point, I think most people just stopped caring about it. We can’t change him. Only he can change himself, if he ever wants to. He ignores the complaints of real Marines and veterans, and refuses to apologize for his false claims. As a life member of the VFW, I thought that it was wrong of Sgt. Slaughter to accept the Commander-In-Chief's Gold Medal of Merit at the 2009 annual VFW Convention. Sharing the stage with him that weekend were Buzz Aldrin and Scott Carpenter, two real veteran astronaut heroes. Robert Remus did not deserve to stand shoulder to shoulder with them when the awards were presented. I’m still waiting for Mr. Remus to set foot on a Marine Corps installation and try to spin his stories… but we know that will never happen. G.I. Joe remains special to me, and I’ll just continue to pretend that Sgt. Slaughter is a fictional character on the G.I. Joe team like Duke or Snake Eyes, and has no connection to Robert “Stolen Valor” Remus.

Sgt. slaughter did a great job for GI Joe in the past and he can bring it again for future figures and maybe a new animation...

I know that it's the typical defense for the stolen valor business, but Sarge is from an era of wrestling where you worked your character, "shoot interview" or not. Yeah I can't say there's not a point where he could have easily drawn a line in the sand and said "okay this Sgt Slaughter guy that I portray is a work of fiction," but, the truth of the matter is, he's been making money off that character for decades now. It's his. That's unique in an era where a guy named McMahon owns almost everything. He's not going to come out at this juncture and risk cutting that off, especially when it's been pretty well covered by now.

I would assume this is for a classified figure, not retro. I'll get one either way though.

Slaughter was part of the wwf in the 80's... Sgt Slaughter is a character created for wrestling at the time. They had the Iron Sheik, Andre the giant George the animal steel (crazy charcters some based on stereotypes). All created characters for entertainment. I really do understand the stolen valor movement, I think everyone has seen those videos where idiots dress up and pretend the have done service. I agree with outing those guys it's 2020. But the slaughter character is from a different time where all this nostalgia is based. I'd like to think he can be grandfathered in, he's 72 years old and probably survives on the appearances (a lot of stars do). I'm ok with him being the character, but if he's faking service it's better to be truthful about it. We love the guy and the character.
