So now that the G.I. Joe Community has gotten several looks at what the new Hasbro initiative plastic free packaging will look like, we wanted to host a poll to see what the G.I. Joe Collecting Community feedback is.
Do you prefer the classic window Packaging showing the toy inside or do you prefer the new full art windowless cardboard only box? Also does the new packaging effect how many you will be buying of each G.I. Joe Classified figure? Are you more likely to buy less or more because of the Line wide switch to windowless packaging?

I am likely to buy less duplicates of figures with the switch to window-less packaging.
I want to add that I think the window-less packaging we've seen for Slaughter and Kamakura looks particularly bad. If they could make the boxes look as good as the Transformers have looked or closer to what the Viper Three Pack looks like, it would look less cheap.

I buy 90% of my figures online and open almost all of them so plastic free doesn't affect me much. I save all the packaging and it will probably be easier to fold the boxes down now. Won't affect how many I purchase.

I'm an opener so it doesn't impact me personally either way, but I'd prefer they keep plastic bubbles for carded figures because I think it's better for retail display. I'd also be fine with them offering a choice for direct to consumer orders from Pulse, maybe provide some incentive in exchange for skipping printed packaging entirely and just receiving the item in a plain brown cardboard container.

This seems like the dumbest poll ever. I think we all know the outcome. It doesn't matter though - the wheels are already in motion.
It will criple the collectible lines. No question about it. Windowless packaging just looks CHEAP. There is no way around it. So, with prices going up - and the perception of the product going down - sales will drastically fall. We aren't even considering what it will do to PARENTS in the toy aisles - actually buying this stuff for a kid. How are they going to know what they are even buying? Look at the Star Wars Mission Fleet line. Does it sell AT ALL? The artwork is great - but you can't even really tell what you're buying. What parent is going to spend $25 on an action figure for their kid - when they can't even see what they are getting? |

This is just my opinion, but I feel like the way this poll question is asked is kind of silly. It's like asking if you like things for free or if you'd rather pay for them. I'm going to bet that 99.9% of the community is going to prefer the classic window packaging, me included.
The real question as it's posed in the very first post here is if it will affect your purchasing habits. Personally, I'm still likely to buy just as many figures as before. However, I open everything and I never really understood MOC collectors. You're just taking an item from the store and placing it in your home or in a storage container and never really experiencing the product. Again, just my opinion so feel free to tell me all the reasons why I'm wrong. I do often buy an extra of each figure to keep mint in the box in case my first copy is defective or shows signs of wear and tear. Something about having a back up copy on hand soothes my anxiety. I have also saved all the boxes from the figures I open, which is getting unwieldy and inefficient from a storage perspective. I agree with JScott that the Kamakura and Sarge package art is pretty terrible. I am now likely to discard those boxes which is maybe a blessing. I think the rotating artist concept was cool and works better for the windowed packaging as it was only showcased on a small amount of real estate on the box. Now that it's the entire front panel, if you don't like the style being used, it pretty much ruins the entire box. |

I dislike the windowless packaging but I don?t mind the outside box and the art but I did have a visceral reaction when the H team opened the Vipers. The cheap cardboard holding the figs in gave me a knockoff line vibe. I?m not trying to turn this into an angry debate with anyone but if the point is to reduce waste and petroleum then aren?t they then increasing consumption of wood products to do it? Any environmental degree holders here? Would be interested to have someone take a swag on this. Do changes like this move the needle or just shift the impact. |

As one who routinely goes to ebay for a good portion of my collectibles, I'll have to start opting strictly for loose listings just so I know what I'm going to get. Even with the high end stuff, you usually have the ability to actually see the product. I like to get new figures but in theory this opens up a new option for scammers.
