I do not disagree with the wait and see method to a certain extent. You are also right, re-releases will probably happen. We will get another version of a Cobra Viper down the road.
However, my larger issue is first how Target handles pre-orders. Second the communication inside Target to know what can and can’t be done. Third, Hasbro did say a date, Target help desk said a different date, the handheld’s at Target said a different date and the registers were not liked because of a different date. Add to that employees and managers who all do different things when it came to selling them. As well as back door scalping or selling the same six figures to the same guy every day stock came in. There should have been a joint statement from Target and Hasbro with something like “We know there were issues with this we are looking at resolving it. We acknowledge the problem. Target has added a bot defense to pre orders (or open up the pre-orders appropriately), Hasbro and Target will stay on the same page for a date release date. We know how important these are for you fans and we are trying to make it better. So we can continue to get these figures in the hands of the fans.” Would this resolve it all? Absolutely not. Some of everything listed about would still happen. It would make me feel a little better and be less a skeptical this time around. We all saw the comments during the presentation, I watch reviews from you tube channels, and talked to friends. Every single person I talked to, read about or watched said the same thing with the same reaction, to paraphrase....”oh man not more Target exclusives, not more pre-order debacles, it more stocking, and street date issues. “ Now I am always willing to give people and stores another chance. However, just on the same preorder issues last night.... there is already a strike against this second round of Cobra Island figures. It was very disheartening to not see hear from either Target not Hasbro on the previous problems. It seems like widespread issues at Target and it just GI Joe. Same issues with Star Wars, Marvel, and Transformers. However, there seems to be almost nothing stock for GI Joe ever since this line stocked. I hope I am wrong and we can find what we want easily, but it is not off to a good start for this second wave of Cobra Island figures. I get the frustration, of course, and I get frustrated, but then its like…what? What do I do? Just simmer away for months and months? What does Target really care, the GI Joe product they put up does sell, it sells very fast, whether its bots or whoever. The faster the better, in their opinion, I’m sure. They would need one strong counter incentive, to do anything to slow down those sellouts. And like others have said, the more they can get people hunting from one store to another for hot items, the more chance who people will try and justify burning their gas money, by picking up other odds and ends they “need” while in the stores. And Hasbro might be cornered too, as Sysiss said, the leverage the big stores have on them, to demand core characters as (initial) exclusives, which has a stronger pull than having a more secondary character or repaint as exclusive. But GI Joe is back out there. In a horrible year and horrible market, with the economy in recession and on the brink of a deeper collapse constantly, who knows exactly how all this is impacting behind the scenes of everyone involved. The movie, the central rocket fuel for the brand this year, is delayed, the synergy between movie, game, and toys has been disrupted…yet the toy roll out continues, unevenly, but with a certain sizzle, good or bad. And the figures themselves, for the most part, have been really well done. They seem to get better and better. The design team has gone above and beyond, with the sculpted details, paint apps, weapon storage, articulation…what more can you ask for in a $20 6” figure line. Aside from availability, of course. People are paying almost $100 on eBay for a Cobra Trooper. So this first trooper roll out has gone from Hasbro, to Target, to secondary sellers (call them what you will), they saw an opportunity, they had certain tools, they capitalized on a hot item. To a certain degree, this can be viewed as a success. Target sold what it bought, fast. Give us more of that, please. Okay, Viper and Firefly? Wow those are really popular characters aren’t they? Yes, they will fly, and there will be a buzz for months. We will eventually sell slightly different versions to your competitors, but for about 6 months, you have dibs on Vipers and Fireflys. Oh sweet! By the way, can we have the first rollout of BATs, we know those are popular. You know, I’m actually rather comforted, that the Target exclusives have consisted of guys like Cobra Trooper and these other top tier, popular characters. Because we know they will be more widely available (in tweaked deco) down the line. Imagine if the exclusive was, oh IDK, Cover Girl or Lowlight or Hit & Run? That might truly be your only chance to get those character. Firefly tho, such a big name, is sure to get many releases.

LOL
I remember well the days of people saying they were going to give the Hasbro reps a "piece of their mind" at Joe-Con. Seemed like almost every year someone would make noise about it. You know what NEVER happened? Anyone actually doing it. Easy to talk big on the internet. Lot harder to try to be "that guy" when surrounded by a crowd of people who are mostly genuinely enthusiastic and positive on the brand. Best case scenario you get out a stammering "Uh...could you make the Target Exclusive more available please?" To which they give you a "We'll look into that." If this had been a "normal" panel at SDCC they would have been surrounded by cheering, adoring fans. Just like every other panel pretty much turns out. PS: Generally not a good idea to threaten/imply assault on other people. Secondly, I guess I have to explain myself better since my post went over your head. Ya, people are stupid in groups and mobs, but I cannot see anyone being happy even in a group if they announced they were doing more Target exclusives at a live convention. You really think a crowd would have applauded that? Did you see the comments light up and go nuts on YouTube when they announced that? Just about every single comment was, "NO MORE TARGET." I still don't think they would have gotten praise for that in person. Based on how pissed people are and those comments I was saying that they would get shit for it just the same in person. Maybe you're right, EVERYONE is a great big coward and will only say shit online and not in person. At this point, I think people are pissed enough to say something in person too. We will see next time they have a convention in person. Last edited by MGurlea; 09-27-2020 at 01:32 PM.. |

Well I missed just about everything yesterday only able to order the wave 2 retro. I don't see Zartan or the trooper being a hard find but FF and the Viper will need a full fledged hunt. Miss the days when I could just walk into a Brick and mortar and grab something right off the shelf. I still haven't see a retro figure in store yet only find classifieds when I get lucky.

Way to read way too much into what I said. First off, I never said I would personally do anything. Even though when I attended the Hasbro panel at SDCC in 2009 I sat in the front row and did ask the reps then about the all black outfits from the movie and some other tough questions. Way to imply I am some coward and you don't even know me. Jerk. I am not afraid to ask toy company reps questions. Maybe you are. From what I could tell, I actually pissed off the Hasbro reps with my questions. Later then on the floor at the Hasbro booth, the reps that were on the panel then gave me dirty looks the whole time. I thought it was funny.

We will see next time they have a convention in person. You implied Hasbro reps would be assaulted. Full stop. Not "asked tough questions." Not "booed." Assaulted. You can backpedal and pretend that wasn't your implication all you like, but I've got your original quote. You don't need security for tough questions or getting booed. |

Wait, whuh?! Zarana has been spotted in production, or is that very clever photo-shopping?
I’m still working my way through this thread. Someone has probably already covered this here, but just in case not:

I'm glad he's back to blue vs the bad-clams-green of the 25th version.

That's the only reason why I ordered Zartan. Too much nostalgia for me to pass up.

I really like this Zartan. Just give us the younger twins already! ;)
(Zandar & Zarana, NOT Tomax & Xamot.)
