Switch it with Billie Holiday. She can enjoy being counter programming vs summer blockbusters. Win-win.

I’m not going to fuss too much yet. The pushback was inevitable, but I think there remains time to adjust. I think the biggest issue is that Hasbro really wants a coordinated marketing push...but as it stands, Snake Eyes is going to be overshadowed by two massive films with MUCH larger marketing budgets.
I still suspect dates will change. A quick look at the schedule shows a rather bloated fall slate (a result of the filming delays), but there’s a LOT of opportunity earlier in the fall (especially August at this point). At this point, it looks like Paramount is primarily looking at THEIR OWN slate, and not necessarily the state of the market. They probably just changed the date to clear it off the upcoming release schedule more than anything else at this point. If nothing else, I’d hope that Hasbro might step in to push the film to an earlier date and avoid conflicting with Spider-Man (that Hasbro is also making toys for). Again, August or September would be strong contenders with a light schedule (at the moment) and being able to leverage the fall resets for stronger toy line support. If nothing else the film’s more modest budget might well offset weaker box office results, assuming it moves out of October between two MASSIVE tent pole releases. For example, October 22nd was previously allocated by Paramount as 'Untitled Hasbro Event Film'. Snake Eyes actually jumped into two Micronauts slots prior to this one. |

The odds aren't looking good.
Not any huge event films to show if the new and improved Paramount is really new and improved. It seems like they are banking on it has been long enough maybe people forgot about all the films that almost dragged down the studio. For all the problems of not being consistent fans will still show up in huge numbers for Batman just because it's Batman. They seem to have found a formula that works for live action Spidey so fans of the web-head will show up in huge numbers. It seems like it is going to be hard for GI Joe to stand out in the middle of the DC and Marvel pop culture. Two really bad movies from old Paramount and toys you can't find at Target isn't exactly hey look at me I'm pop culture relevant. I know studios are wanting to drop their backlog of new films as soon as theaters can reopen nation wide, but the release date just doesn't feel like a good fit. Perhaps the idea is after being starved for new films ticket buys will gorge on films at any time on the calendar. Just hope this doesn't hurt the toy line because there is such a long list of GI Joe and Cobra updates I need in the new scale. |

Terrible decision for this film. Probably should have held this MUCH closer to it's original date. A solid action film in a limited release/VOD format would have worked out in Snake Eyes favor, releasing this film in between Spider-Man and Batman is asking for failure.

That's a crazy delay, but honestly? The movie will suck balls anyway, so why should anyone care if their eyeballs are abused now or a year from now?
Now watch, the movie will end up being awesome. Believe me, I'd love to be wrong.

Any chance Hasbro might be the ones pushing against VOD?

So, what Hasbro has to do now is release the toys this September, that way they can sit stagnant on store shelves for a year before the movie releases. Then, in October 2021 they can release the same toys, so they can not sell again. Whoa... deja vu!

Will this mean another Classified wave or two BEFORE the movie waves? That may actually be a good thing. Hoping for a steady stream of Joes in stores...
