I never got into the Allor books, but it sort of seems like maybe these classified figures are from a timeline where cobra just won the presidency or took over somehow. When I look at firefly I wonder why a saboteur would be in EOD gear. Would make a lot more sense to be disarming bombs if you're on the defense.

I don't know about you guys, but I probably spent some $600 in Target while looking for figures this month. My wife got all kinds of shit. From a new microwave, to plates, bowls, silverware, and on and on.
I never found a single figure, and I have another guy going the days I don't. Target got a lot more than $80, and they know it. If it were up to me, those shady fucks would never get another dollar. It's not up to me though. My wife loves that store, and couldn't care less how much they piss me off. Every time I go in there I lose a little piece of my soul. |

Since it seems that a few have shared their samples of retail finds vs other means, here is my current list since Wave 1:
Wave 1: Snake Eyes, Duke, Roadblock, Scarlett, and Destro found on the shelf at Walmart in July (around 10 A.M.). Wave 2: Gung Ho, Cobra Commander, and 2 Red Ninjas at Walgreens on the shelf. Then I bought 4 from "resellers." Cobra Island Wave 1: Roadblock (on the shelf), Beach Head, and 2 Cobra Troopers at Target with a stock check. Then I bought 6 from "resellers." The Baroness was on pre-order and it became: back-order, back-order, cancelled. Then I resorted to a "reseller." Cobra Island Wave 2: Fire Fly and 4 Vipers at Target (4 different stores--only one Viper was found on the shelf/peg). Then I bought 2 Vipers from a "reseller." After finding my first 2 Vipers in the store, I was about ready to buy from a local scalper. I decided to continue the hunt when the "reseller" thought $95 each was not enough. So thank you, it pissed me off enough, and I saved money on Viper #3 and #4. By the way, I started a new "Share Your Current Classified Collection" thread: https://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-j...ml#post5369588

Well, maybe this is why they have a limited number of the Cobra Missions. They figured that people will keep going to Targets in hopes of getting one. Even if they don't find it on the pegs, each time they go they'll buy something else that they weren't planning on buying but just saw while browsing. It worked on your case and I know worked on me several times too. That's pretty brilliant strategy.
In regards to the exclusiveness of Cobra Island figures drawing me to buy add on items while I am at Target, it generally has the opposite response from me. If I have a helpful team member help me with something, then yeah I will pick-up cat food and a couple of things. If I go exclusively for Joes, and it is empty, I am fine waiting to do my main shopping at another time, and at another store. I used to be exclusive Target shopper, but something about the Classified Joe hunt soured me and opened my eyes. Target is my closest store, but there are competitors only 1 to 2 miles further. So, I have started to frequent them more this fall and winter, and I can check for toys there. It may seem childish, but a couple of interactions over the Joes made me rethink my lazy comparison shopping. An example that rubbed me the wrong way is when I was not able to buy any Cobra Troopers, even though they acknowledged 6 were in the stockroom. They gave me an excuse of a stocking date for the section. That day, around the afternoon shift change of 2 or 3 PM, the 6 quickly left their stock. Anyway, re-evaluating my comparison shopping... I saved about $25 dollars buying groceries at another store compared to what was my normal Target amount. And my wife says our local Target's milk commonly gets bad before the expiration date. At the end of the collecting day, we each have to choose what is best for our situation.

Target lost nothing? Well, their reputation is taking a hit here. I used to genuinely love Target, as lame as that may sound. Target has long had a reputation as a cleaner, friendly, more organized version of Walmart. Well, as far as I'm concerned, you can throw out the friendlier and more organized part of that. I'm going to have a long lasting grudge against Target for a very long time, after the way they've handled this situation. I know I'm not alone.
As I've mentioned before, when I make a Target run specifically looking for toys, if I don't find any, I intentionally don't buy a damn thing on the way out. I joined Sam's club for the first time last year. I'm making more trips to Aldi. Target has lost a couple thousand dollars worth of purchases just from myself alone, over the past 6 months. And maybe all this is a continuation of last year's "we underestimated demand". Maybe these wheels were all set in motion 12-18 months ago. If so, then ok, there isn't much they can do about that lack of inventory. But things like hiding the stock #'s from popfinder, hiding the items on their own damn app, blocking these from being ordered on the app locally for in-store p/u, store managers buying up the stock for themselves....this is all bullshit. If they're aware of the demand, and aware of the limited stock, there are measures they could put in place to prevent this nonsense and make sure what little they have of these are distributed fairly. But they flat out don't really care. I've checked 8 different Target locations since 01/01/21. I've seen nothing. It's not just Joe fans that are frustrated with Target. Star wars fans are pissed, NECA Ninja turtle fans are frustrated, as are the POP collectors. It's easy to just say "they don't care". But why continue to sell products you don't care about? Is it really worth pissing off 1000's of customers because they might buy something on the way out? Seems short-sighted to me. I would rather give my money to Publix. And anyone who has ever been to Florida knows how much more expensive Publix is than anywhere else.

A few observations:
-Target dot com has said "Sold out" before (recently with the Viper) and then put back the ability to search nearby stores. -On Target dot com you can search by DPCI number just like with the in store kiosks and both figures (Viper and Firefly) come up. So no need to use an outside search engine, like Google or Duckduckgo, to bring them up. Simply punch in the DPCI number with or without dashes and it pops right up. So they are still in there. -I know one of the excuses is that Hasbro's plans are set in stone 3 years out, for some reason, and cannot be altered for any reason. Hence, why they only sold Target 500 Cobra Island figures and cannot make anymore. I know I am exaggerating but we know it is not a big number. For one I don't buy it because that is a stupid business model not to be nimble. Why can other toy companies meet demand within a few months but the #1 toy company in the world cannot? Also, they did change course on the fly with the Regal Cobra Commander. And has anyone thought of this, if their plans and timeline are so set in stone years out, that means Hasbro would not have had any movie toys out when the movie hit theaters. The movie was supposed to be out in October and only got pushed back because of COVID. Where are the toys for it? They would not even have them out by the time it was supposed to come out on home video. So if we are to believe this excuse of Hasbro can't change plans, they are made years out, then that means they would have had no toys for the movie launch. Good job Hasbro. Or it means that Hasbro can change plans and has and the whole thing about can't change, plans made years out, is a lie. -Take a look at Hasbro's social media engagement. Just on Facebook the post that was up around the time the first wave of Cobra Island came out had 393 comments under it. Mostly everyone talking about the wave. The post that was up around the time the second wave came out has 13 comments under it and only a few people asking about the figures. 13. Their posts are ratioed badly too. Social media engagement is a gauge on some things. There are many companies out there that will drastically change things over ONE negative tweet or comment. It also seems like there are way less different people here talking about these figures. Yes, Hasbro has "gained massive hype and publicity." Too bad it is all just negative.

I have noticed this too. For as much as we think this line is a huge hit - it is really just a hit with a tiny, tiny subset of collectors. Everyone else is just buying them for an investment. I really worry that Hasbro has no clue how to handle GIJoe. They drift along with seemingly unplanned paths - alienating their fans along the way. All they need to do now is flood the market with tons of re-issues of wave one, and we will be right back to the 25th anniversary implosion again.
I don't know what the solution is. Sure is interesting to talk about though. Funny, I was thinking, watch Hasbro end up doing Target Cobra Island wave 3, put zero army builders in the wave, and then over produce the hell out of it based on success of the first two waves. Then there would be actual peg warmers and Target would say, you see? This is why we ordered so few before. It's amazing that Hasbro can't seem to grasp that collectors like to army build .
