Like everyone else I am frustrated with how hard these were to get and seeing very few at retail. Here are two youtube videos that might answer some of the why is this happening questions we all have. The information is a bit of a kick in the balls but worth a watch. Both videos are from the Spector Creative YouTube channel, the guy who makes them was the product manager for MOTU Classics.

Ordered Wave 1 from Megalopolis and received it a few months early.
Found Beachhead(multiple times), Roadblock and a Cobra Trooper in the middle of the day sitting on the shelves at Target. Got Baroness from a scalper at a reasonable price. Also ordered a case of troopers, Baroness and beachhead from a UK retailer. Found Cobra Commander and Red Ninja at Walgreens. Saw Wave 1 several times at various Gamestops. Had to hunt but got Vipers and Firefly at Target. I'll also say I've been able to find every single exclusive and non-exclusive Star Wars Black Series figure pretty easily as well. I've been pretty lucky, or maybe it is a regional thing. They haven't been that hard to find here in Northern California. Last edited by TheSteelBrigade; 01-19-2021 at 01:48 AM.. |

"classic" troop builders should go the same route as regal cc and have a period of time "open" for pre-order. That way everyone gets as many as they want and hasbro can make as much profit as they can... Give target the variant/color ones. Or even ones not as main stream such as say eels, tele-viper, snow serpent, etc.. But cobra troopers and vipers? Come on man lol. I've said it before too, i'm very afraid that my favorite trooper that is red and target's propensity for red colored exclusives...

Are they though? I don't see how "a bunch of dorks showing up at 8AM and sprinting to the toy aisle - grabbing what they can as they argue amongst themselves - then rushing to self scan checkouts - and immediately leave with their bounty in hand" makes Target happy at all.
What is that doing for them except irritating their employees. Whoop Dee - they got to sell 4 action figures totaling $80. I'm sure their plan of gaining additional sales and purchases throughout the store has not worked so well. How often is anyone going into Target looking for these - but instead walking out with a cart full of towels, cat food, and party decorations? I don't think it's happening. To be a successful loss leader, they would have to have enough product to last for a while. Draw people in - let them buy other stuff while they are in the store. Having 4 action figures that sell in 20 seconds does nothing for Target. Nothing but make them look incompetent and piss us all off. I never found a single figure, and I have another guy going the days I don't. Target got a lot more than $80, and they know it. If it were up to me, those shady fucks would never get another dollar. It's not up to me though. My wife loves that store, and couldn't care less how much they piss me off. Every time I go in there I lose a little piece of my soul. |

I don't know about you guys, but I probably spent some $600 in Target while looking for figures this month. My wife got all kinds of shit. From a new microwave, to plates, bowls, silverware, and on and on.

Target wins 100% of the time a customer leaves the store with any part of the money they walked into Target with now in Target’s receipts. There’s nothing confusing about that. It’s the total sum of their daily receipts that matter, not that they need every customer to spend an exorbitant amount each. That’s why it’s called mass retail — they make their money by the total mass of their sales. Their business is 100% about getting as many people into the store as possible to buy, not trying to get a select amount if people who will each by a certain amount. Their business is volume, plain and simple. They aren’t selling Lamborghini’s where one sale does the trick. |

But I am very unhappy with the way Target handled this line - not just in one wave, but across two. More than that, I'm unhappy with the lack of transparency and accountability for the line. So, in marketing parlance, the CI line, and my experiences with both customer support and seeing my orders backordered in perpetuity while stores are selling out cases instantly - the experiences around this line have made me a 'detractor' (someone who will trash the company) from a former 'promoter' (someone who will lavish praise on the brand). So, sure, in the past I'd buy a bunch of things at Target if I was out on a run. Now that hearing "Target" immediately triggers all the negative experiences, I'm immediately reminded of all this and I no longer want to shop there for meaningless junk. I can go to a thousand other retailers for that. Outside of the toys (which I can't get), all those things can be bought somewhere else. So I totally get your experience, but for us, the opposite has happened. I won't buy things at Target I don't need to now.

I swear if Toys R Us ever makes a comeback in the US, I will never set foot in a Target again. Toys need to get popular again. I wish there were awesome cartoons like in the 80s. Those did a great job driving up demand for toys.
Take me back to the 80s. |
