Agreed, unless I’m forgetting something, I can’t remember a tougher line of exclusive figures to get, nothing has come close. The Walmart Clone Wars Black Series, Target Din Djarin with Child, Target Transformers Thrust, Target Carbonized Mando, any Walgreens Exclusive or Marvel Legend exclusive have been easy to obtain.
They are hard to find because people buy them seconds after they're put on the shelf. |

You go ahead and “show Hasbro”. I’m just not dissatisfied enough to go that route. I could maybe understand if every figure was as hard to find as the Cobra Island figures, but they’re not. I’ll continue to buy the figures as they come available until they start to suck.
I understand some of my mindset is a product of my apparent insane luck... Except for Baroness, I’ve found every single Cobra Island figure, multiple times on the pegs and I’ve found 5 or 6 Joes at my local Walmart. But another part of me has just accepted the realities of action figure collecting in 2021. Global pandemic, kids not really buying toys (especially GI JOE), only two big retailers. I completely understand why Hasbro has to bend over, lube up, and let Target have their way. It is what it is. I am new to action figure collecting so if I can find a Viper, I can just work on completing my Star Wars Black Series Imperial Army squad goals. When I was a kid, I was only able to acquire half of the GI JOE/Star Wars/MOTU figures I wanted. Not having everything was just the way it was. I don’t think the Classified line is so hard to find that it warrants calls to storm the Hasbro corporate offices to demand an explanation. No, what gets me is the precedent of the Infantry release vs. Trooper. We've already established that if you're not buying the hard-to-find exclusive, then you're literally getting less. You're right, we all have to draw the line somewhere. I just wonder if GI Joe is in the right place for people to already make these decisions. If this was Star Wars or Transformers, people boycotting it wouldn't matter as there's millions of other consumers waiting to bite. But GI Joe is just getting it's foothold in the market again. Can it afford to squander good will? I'm half way out the door because I don't like the idea of paying the same price for less. I could accept that the Infantry was repainted. Whatever. But losing accessories? No way. Part of me is a wait and see if we'll actually get the Cobra Island exclusives. If they don't materialize by the end of summer then I'm just out. A year seems like a good starting point as the Transformers Seeker three pack was way back in 2019 and it's getting a whole new release. Just not going to support a line that rips me off. |

That’s the nature of an Exclusive. The added gear is the carrot that gets you into a Target. That’s what Target paid for. Cobra Infantry still has the same amount accessories as most of the figures in the line. On top of that, Cobra Infantry, in hand, is the superior figure.

I wish I could be optimistic as you but I can't. All I see is just paying the same and getting less. I ain't into that. |

I got another delay email from Target for my Viper preorder. We're now pushed back to March 2nd. I expect the inevitable cancellation will hit soon.
I won't be feeding the scalpers anytime soon, but we'll see how it goes 6 months from now. I'm not as confident as some of you about the "inevitable" re-release of the CI exclusives at BBTS or other fan channel stores. I think we are more likely to only get a repainted main-line Viper a la Cobra Infantry but not a later CI original. As huge as the demand seems to us right now, I don't believe that GI Joe Classified--unlike Star Wars or Transformers--is popular enough for Hasbro to warrant the re-releases. I hope i'm proven wrong. I'll expect that i'll be fine with just a main-line repaint for the Viper, unless it varies greatly and in a less appealing way from the CI version. I bit the bullet last month and bought a CI Trooper off eBay when I caught one that wasn't an obscene price. The CI Trooper is different enough from the Cobra Infantry (which i have preordered from a couple of places) that it really fills the Cobra Officer slot for me. |

Then the Hasbro rep scribbles down a few notes: "Several rifles. Maybe some goggles. Arm band?" |

I just got another refund from Target that I did not ask for. I now have three figures from them I did not pay for (well, two - I traded one Firefly) plus $40 in gift cards.
Cross my heart and hope to die I never asked for a penny from them. Unreal.

Wow. Reminds me of when Digital River was responsible for MOTUC fulfillment. I had three very similar experiences with the Digital River cats. I was shipped something incorrectly, had another figure without a weapon, etc. They solved the problem by willy nilly throwing free stuff at it. Can't help but think they probably handled any similar customer disappointment in the same fashion. Not a sustainable business model.
