I noticed this morning that FF and CV are showing sold out on the Target site. I haven’t seen that yet.
Either they have stock held back for preorders or they are going to hose a bunch of folks. |

This post x a thousand. What was the point in giving Target GI Joe exclusives? I find it hard to believe that Hasbro does not understand the value of army builders to fans and thus the sales.
Did Target really pay Hasbro a lot for this exclusive deal? “Hey Hasbro we want to pay you a ton for a brand that comes around once a decade and then only lasts a few years.” I doubt this happened like that so I keep coming back to the sense that Hasbro lost revenue on the CI deal. As sbarty said, Classified is targeted at adult collectors and Pulse is an adult collecting website yet Hasbro makes a deal with Target. It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. |

What is that doing for them except irritating their employees. Whoop Dee - they got to sell 4 action figures totaling $80. I'm sure their plan of gaining additional sales and purchases throughout the store has not worked so well. How often is anyone going into Target looking for these - but instead walking out with a cart full of towels, cat food, and party decorations? I don't think it's happening. To be a successful loss leader, they would have to have enough product to last for a while. Draw people in - let them buy other stuff while they are in the store. Having 4 action figures that sell in 20 seconds does nothing for Target. Nothing but make them look incompetent and piss us all off. |

Scored Firefly through a trade with wehrmanm. Fast shipping and arrived in perfect condition. He even threw in some Giga Bread 3D printed firearms and JUMP Jetpack. Thanks again, bud.

They must have owed Target a favor. And yeah, it definitely doesn't make sense that Target would even care about exclusive rights to a brand that hasn't been around in awhile. But I am sure Target is very happy with the results. Hasbro definitely lost out on the opportunity to make a lot of money with these figures.
And even if these CI figures just drew in customers who were only looking for the figure, this deal seeds long-term demand that will prove fruitful once supply is increased. Moreover, Hasbro lost out on nothing. They gain in massive hype and publicity. Anyone who thinks these figures won't show up in the main line in a few months/years is new to the collecting game, willfully ignorant, or a plain fool. One new paint hit, one fewer accessory and it skirts any exclusivity agreement. Do not kid yourselves: just because it was a temporary loss for collectors, does not mean it was a loss for either Hasbro or Target. |

Are they though? I don't see how "a bunch of dorks showing up at 8AM and sprinting to the toy aisle - grabbing what they can as they argue amongst themselves - then rushing to self scan checkouts - and immediately leave with their bounty in hand" makes Target happy at all.

One new paint hit, one fewer accessory and it skirts any exclusivity agreement. Do not kid yourselves: just because it was a temporary loss for collectors, does not mean it was a loss for either Hasbro or Target. As I've mentioned before, when I make a Target run specifically looking for toys, if I don't find any, I intentionally don't buy a damn thing on the way out. I joined Sam's club for the first time last year. I'm making more trips to Aldi. Target has lost a couple thousand dollars worth of purchases just from myself alone, over the past 6 months. And maybe all this is a continuation of last year's "we underestimated demand". Maybe these wheels were all set in motion 12-18 months ago. If so, then ok, there isn't much they can do about that lack of inventory. But things like hiding the stock #'s from popfinder, hiding the items on their own damn app, blocking these from being ordered on the app locally for in-store p/u, store managers buying up the stock for themselves....this is all bullshit. If they're aware of the demand, and aware of the limited stock, there are measures they could put in place to prevent this nonsense and make sure what little they have of these are distributed fairly. But they flat out don't really care. I've checked 8 different Target locations since 01/01/21. I've seen nothing. It's not just Joe fans that are frustrated with Target. Star wars fans are pissed, NECA Ninja turtle fans are frustrated, as are the POP collectors. It's easy to just say "they don't care". But why continue to sell products you don't care about? Is it really worth pissing off 1000's of customers because they might buy something on the way out? Seems short-sighted to me.

Eh, if I were either Hasbro or Target in this Cobra Island situation, I'd be pondering just how many more of these figures I could have sold. A missed opportunity on additional sales may not be a "loss" in revenue but it is a lost opportunity at additional revenue in the short term. I have to imagine this has been a learning opportunity for all involved. If things don't go smoother with similar products in the coming year, then they've learned nothing and congratulations to the scalpers once again.

Target lost nothing? Well, their reputation is taking a hit here. I used to genuinely love Target, as lame as that may sound. Target has long had a reputation as a cleaner, friendly, more organized version of Walmart. Well, as far as I'm concerned, you can throw out the friendlier and more organized part of that. I'm going to have a long lasting grudge against Target for a very long time, after the way they've handled this situation. I know I'm not alone.
These exclusive are too rare to have brought any new business either to Target or the Joe brand. They have absolutely driven away loyal customers of both. |
