Well my CI series 2 shopping is done, ordered my Viper. Betting on football paid off and a random scalper is $90 richer. But damn I'm excited! Hope these end up mass produced and I'm the last sucker to over pay.

This is the first movement I've seen in my order from "Backordered." Fingers crossed.
ETA: I'm also seeing a pending charge on my card at the same time, which makes me feel somewhat confident they found something to ship. I'll be happy to show you which Ghostbuster I receive at the end of this week.

One of my two flipped to Preparing to ship last week, before falling back to backordered (and later asking me to approve another day). Considering everyone else's bad luck, hope this is the start of some good news.

"Yeah, man, I'm really a lazy no-goodnik who won't participate in broader conversation writ large because I won't watch a portrait view TWENTY-SIX MINUTE VIDEO about a single anecdote at a single toy store.
If your world consists of thinking that, and thinking Target staff are living the life of luxury because you spent fifteen seconds on Indeed (why not 26 minutes or more searching mean salaries?), then if we're not on the same intellectual wavelength, that comes as a massive wave of comfort to me. In all seriousness (not that I don't mean the above), understand that not everyone sees the world the way you do, and it's okay that they do. It's very, very clear that this is not a concept you grasp." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Then wehrmanm goes on to JUSTIFY scalping as a "service" in a subsequent post. "Purchasing a case of Vipers is $120. Sell each for $130, and you gross $780. $780-$130 = $650 net. Then you still have time, expenses, shipping, and so on. Still not a bad chunk of change. I can totally understand why people would do it.
Unethical? Probably. Illegal? Maybe in some cases. We'd need some more details from how Target classifies things. Still, if Hasbro simply produced enough to fill demand - they could be collecting the money instead of scalpers. It seems a no brainer. If collectors are willing to pay $130 for one Viper - they would certainly pay $120 for a whole case if they were available. Say Hasbro produces these in 10,000 unit batches. 10,000 x $20 per figure is $200,000. If they could instead get six times that amount - $1.2 Million dollars... why not produce 60,000 figures? I'm sure there is research showing where the tipping point is... and I'm probably way over it - but I'm just thinking out loud here. Seems like they are leaving money on the table - and putting it right into scalpers pockets." I came across some MOTU on eBay the other day and I think they were basically selling for retail prices. Because you can easily find them in stores and Mattel has restocked them a ton last year. MOTU has not been sold in stores for how long? 20 years or more? But somehow Mattel can gauge interest and how much to make. If Hasbro did the same it would end all this. I just looked back at some of my MOTU Super7 orders and some of them from pre-order to shipping was FOUR months. And they did not know how many they needed to make until pre-orders closed. So if little Super7 can make enough figures for everyone who wants one and ship them out within four months I don't understand how Hasbro cannot course correct by now from making too little when they saw what demand was for Cobra Island last August and what the demand for this line overall was since last Spring. P.S. Pimp Daddy Destro is available right now on Hasbro Pulse. I know you said you liked Destro and were not able to get him. Did you at least get this version? It's sad that Hasbro Pulse got away from preordering for these. I thought that was one of the main purposes of Pulse is for collectors to obtain these figures. Why not just do like what the Club did during the FSS runs and have people preorder the amounts they desire?

Did Target really pay Hasbro a lot for this exclusive deal? “Hey Hasbro we want to pay you a ton for a brand that comes around once a decade and then only lasts a few years.” I doubt this happened like that so I keep coming back to the sense that Hasbro lost revenue on the CI deal. As sbarty said, Classified is targeted at adult collectors and Pulse is an adult collecting website yet Hasbro makes a deal with Target. It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. |
