Maybe if there are some Joe exclusives, I have a shot at them.
Maybe I am just crazy, but I just think this is situation is a little out of hand. SDCC was scheduled about 14 weeks out from now. You really think it wont be safe by then? I work at my city hospital and we currently have about 14 positive. NC hasn’t been hit too hard, but Idk. What is it like around some of you all? I think that hopeful optimism is great as long as it doesn’t override science and sound judgement. If a possible year of isolation is on one end of the spectrum and death the other, we need to make decisions that get us closer to the middle, not the extreme side of either. This will be the first year I will have missed SDCC in 8 years. Am I bummed? Of course! Is it worth my life? No way! Just like going to a movie, restaurant, or beach are not worth my life either. In this time of home isolation, please take the time to learn about this virus and others before it, and don’t buy in to politically driven talk that is economically, and not health driven. There is no amount of deaths “acceptable” just to try to reopen too early. Just like a haircut that is too short, you can’t take it back once you commit. I hope you are all safe, enjoying time with family, dusting your Joes off and realizing that our loved ones are the most valuable figures in our collections! Protect them by being smart! |

Unfortunately, a lot of people feel that their areas are “safe” and this is due in part to the misinformation being passed around out there. One fact remains: until we increase testing to the point where we a) know exactly how many people have been infected and B) what the true fatality ratio is and C) create a vaccine, then nowhere is any safer than anywhere else. If your state opens and somebody a symptomatic travels there, that’s all it takes for an outbreak once again.

”Never say never.” NECA are already planning on releasing their exclusives to everyone. I’m pretty sure other companies will do the same through their own websites/online stores.

I’d have to agree with this. Some productions and orders were placed before the shut down and China, some right after they came back online. With SDCC waiting until 2 days ago to announce the cancellation, some stuff had to have been made. The question is which companies and how much was produced? Talk about truly exclusive....2020 Pandemic Exclusives! I’d like to to get an equal crack at some exclusives. At least I won’t have to push through the FUNKo people this year! Maybe Hasbro has something up it’s sleeve for Joes!

This was expected. Even if they didn't cancel it, how many people would go? Sure, by July the stay at home order will probably be lifted, but not the gathering limits. Not at SDCC scale. If just one attendee tested positive and they got it at San Diego, not only would SDCC and the city be open to law suits, but thousands would want to be tested just in case.
Limit the number of people? No way. People would start lining up NOW to be one of the, what, 1000 per day admittance? As far as the exclusives, I'll wait to hear what Hasbro has to say. Yes, they are manufactured well in advance of the Con, but who knows what was made before shut downs overseas. I absolutely agree it would be awesome to stick it to those scalper clowns that line up at dawn to buy more than their fair share and have people to buy extras. I was able to acquire the last couple G.I.Joe exclusives because they were online. If I had gone to the Con I would have used most of the day and MAYBE got one. Immortal, can you really say you missed it if it didn't happen? LoL

If you go to their public facebook page, they are playing it by ear, but so far it is still on. I think they mentioned they would push it back a few weeks if need be but not cancel it. I was planning on going. It would be a huge show with lots of inventory since all the shows the last few months have been canceled.
