Before you quit modern Joe? Do you mean, when you quit a while ago, or did you just quit again recently? Hope you’re still in the game.

Found a couple of Hiss III's on the shelf earlier this week. Left them both as I'd already ordered one off the website.

I'm definitely curious to see what else comes from this Retro line. We have about half the original 1982 lineup accounted for (Snake Eyes, Scarlett, Stalker, Grunt, Cobra Commander, Cobra Trooper, and Cobra Officer), so I wonder if we'll end up seeing the other half released in the Retro Collection (Breaker, Flash, Rock 'n Roll, Short-Fuze, Zap, Clutch, Grand Slam, Hawk, and Steeler) The VAMP also seems like a plausible vehicle release at the current $25 price they've established.

I've actually come to the decision that with all of the other stuff I collect, it was time to cut a line- especially having become enamored with the direction Classified is taking. Between the gaping holes in the modern roster, the difficulties I've had in gearing them up (I HATE gearing up modern Joes;) and the fact that I really don't care much for any of the newly sculpted retro figures aside from Stalker, I decided to clear them out. I do, however, still intend to use them as custom fodder. I still have many, many builds I'd like to try and get done.

Finally after finding nothing but bare shelves mostly for a couple weeks because of the “toy reset”, I scored today. Picked up a couple Stalkers and 5 Cobra Troopers! These were at three different local Walmart’s. Unfortunately they must have had these stored in a trailer out in the sun somewhere during the reset because all of them including Stalkers I left at the store had melted bubbles. The figures and accessories were all okay (other than a few rifles I need to use the hot water trick on).
I also found and bought a Hiss III. It seems the store I “seeded” payed off. There is a Walmart near me that wasn’t carrying anything GI Joe (not even any pegs), so I grabbed a bunch of pegwarming Dukes and Cobra Commanders from a different store and made a return, forcing them to put them up. It was at this store today I scored 3 of the troopers and the Hiss III! Good trick to try if your local Walmart refuses to carry GI Joe. Last edited by Dem_Yoe'z!; 08-01-2021 at 02:06 AM.. |

That’s pretty hilarious. Never heard of that before

I'm pretty sure someone uses my nearest Wal-Mart as a dumping ground for their pegwarmers. Back in the days of 3.75" Star Wars Wal-Mart exclusive Black Series my store would have one case show up and immediately get picked over, then nothing more for a few weeks, then suddenly 30 Snokes or whatever would show up and never leave. Frustratingly enough, they would never go on clearance either. This happened more than once with the waves in that series. I'm convinced some jerk was trying to open up his nearest store for cases of the new waves each time and would do a bulk buy and return like that to my store. Not saying this is what you were doing, just mentioning it since it's related.

Hoping to find the HISS III. I had the one from the early 2000s and still have Rip It carded on a repro card.

Exactly. Once they put them out on their shelf and people start buying them, it can trigger their inventory to reorder. In this case, apparently since the local people hadn’t seen anything Joe there they were more than eager to buy the peg warmers. When I stopped in yesterday, only one Duke was left.
