I sincerely doubt they’ll be o-ring either. It’s possible Hasbro could make the toys look like the vintage figures but with modern joints. Like what Mattel is doing with MOTU origins.
But most likely Hasbro will just be picking and choosing old molds from 25th/50th/etc and slapping them on vintage cardbacks, just to do something cheap and easy to capitalize on the 80’s nostalgia wave and also promote classified . Both of those options suck ass for me, and I would not bother with the line. I would prefer near 100% vintage oring accurate re-releases, even if they were $20 each, OR completely modern 3 3/4 inch ARAH era toys on vintage cardbacks. Either of those options I’d be all in. |

I wonder what would be cheaper: to make new modern era molds or new o-ring molds? Would the o-ring style have a cost advantage?

No, from what I have heard it would be cheaper going with the new style. They would have to outsource the orings, tbars, screws, and rivets. It adds up pretty fast. The new stuff has metal, but not nearly that much.

Really looking forward to this line - if they make all of figures on the cardback in this format & if they look good, I'm sure I'll want all of them!
I suspect these will be tough to find @ retail stores (the Star Wars retro figures were next to impossible to find @ Wal-mart), so hopefully those of us who want them can get them online at a reasonable price....yes, I'm being sarcastic ;) Quote:
My preference for these new retro figures would be a more modern sculpt - for all of the reasons already stated. But, I'll take them anyway I can get them. Last edited by Doctor Venom; 06-18-2020 at 11:40 PM.. |

Retro Marvel figures are not store exclusives. For Hasbro to design an entire new line of figures as a single store's exclusive is extremely unlikely. That's why the exclusive lines use pre-existing sculpts.

How do you do a "retro" line without "going backwards?" The whole point of nostalgia is to go backwards. That's what people want out of a Retro line. That has absolutely nothing to do with proceeding with new 3.75" figures. That can and should be done as its own line. Meanwhile, a Retro line with o-ring construction for nostalgia should exist. |
