It’s funny when I played ball, my parents made sure hat I had a bat and a glove, or my pads and helmet, cleats etc but we got ourselves to the field. We never left the neighborhood for a single game. And if we had to travel as far as ten city blocks for the All Star games that would ultimately lead to the Little League World Series every over worked blue collar parent would roll their eyes and gripe at the chore. I’m all for organized sports (or any group activities) from a young age but these kids need a little time to decompress as do the parents. Up until maybe a couple years ago I was working 70 hours a week for the extra OT and getting home between 9 and 10 PM. Thank god my wife was able to run the kid around for this stuff.

I have definitely gotten that vibe from some of them. Others had their hearts in the right place. I think they just wanted the kids to give it their all so they wouldn’t have regrets later in life, maybe even succeed in highly competitive fields, but they are kids after all, it little pros.

Now, now, Mattel ≠ Hasbro, but they've admittedly been *crushing it* in distribution and availability for the most part. Perhaps this is also early hysteria and it'll be fine in a week's time.

However, while I'm willing to admit there are some caveats at play here that are unique to the situation, I will be standing by with a large plate of crow to serve up to that homeboy who wrote an essay earlier about how my alarmism was completely wrong.

I don't like to be an "I told you so" person, but that doesn't mean I'm not in the position to be one.

Both of these are excellent point. My two sons that are still at home (Ages 11 & 9) still "collect" some toys. My 11 yr old collects Mario toys, but like the McFarlane example you gave, he just displays his Mario sets like they are statues or decorations for his bedroom. My 9 yr old actually still plays with Legos though. It is interesting, I have a 24 yr old son who primarily played with Legos as a child (he was in into GIJoe Spy Troops & Sigma Six for a while). He ended up earning a degree in Applied Science (CAD drawings) and is now a Geo-Spatial Engineer for the Army.
