I could be wrong(and probably am) but I thought someone official officially said o-ring figures would cost twice as much as moderns because of materials, machining and engineering? I really don't have a horse in this race though. If they move away from moderns, I buy the ones I didn't get/get the Indies. If they do end up going too o-ring, vehicles should still(pretty much) be universal. I'm happy either way.

If they ever do a Grunt figure. I could see Hasbro reusing the Dollar General Duke.

How is buying toys dwelling on the past? In your logic buying a xbox is dwelling on the past or a box of popsicles.

Really? That's not a serious question, I hope. For what reason would you, now an adult, collect a toy line from your childhood, except to dwell on nostalgia?

The thing about saying that the figures would cost twice as much to make, is that is does not equate to double the cost for the final product. Construction of the figure is only part of the cost of the final product. I would be fine with packaging as it is now, so that cost could be the same (and is a surprising amount of a final product as it is. There's a reason mail-order items lacked elaborate packaging). It would not cost any more to market than a modern figure. It would not cost any more to ship from overseas. If they match vintage packouts, they will require fewer accessories, so that cost is mitigated. I have seen many statistics, but if I remember right, the figure itself is only 20-35% the of the final cost you pay (materials AND development). Keep in mind parts reuse and license fees keep us from ever having a uniform rate. I'll use 30% as the example, actual stats may vary. A current "Retro" figure costs 13 dollars (and many of us already think that is too much). 30% of 13 is $3.90. That is the only cost that could double. So a single carded figure should cost no more than $17.00, less per figure if they multi-pack.
Figures already use the same plastics, a T-bar, and two leg screws, so the only things added would be one screw, one O-ring, and four rivets. While I don't see how that doubles the cost, I will not doubt it too much. The price of plastic has gone up since then, with metal not as much, so that may be out of date. The biggest appeal of the 1997-2005 repaints for Hasbro was that they had so many molds that they had ready to go, they only stopped when those molds were overused and refurbishing previously unused molds was getting as expensive as just making new ones. And they have always, and will always, look for ways to charge the same, or more, for doing less. That's business. EDIT Looking at Super 7's ReAction as an outside example, those figures cost $18 AND have vintage-style packaging. Slap the same 14+ warning on the package and sell them in the same space and we go right back to what set GI Joe apart from Star Wars in the 1980s! More articulation for the same price. The art of the card, the art of the sculpt, some like to collect cause of the hunt and maybe even reselling it. Not everyone collects cause of how it made them feel as a child and its obvious my post triggered something in you. Why collect anything? Why collect trading cards, comics, or dvds?

I suppose some might be forgiven for thinking this is true if they see action figures as a childhood thing (the false belief that toys are for kids), but I think that perception is quickly becoming a thing of the past (though I still look forward to certain toy aisles being locked so that kids under 18 or even 21 are not allowed to enter). |

I agree that one doesn’t have to collect toys for nostalgic reasons. I collect numerous toy lines that were not around when I was young nor have any nostalgic draw for me. They are just excellent figures.

Not to derail the topic, again -- what's the most any of you have paid for a figure on Ebay, Amazon, etc.?
