[QUOTE=cappeca;5301763]That's literally what they already did back in 2008.
No, that’s absolutely not 2008. There’s a huge difference between POC/50th styled parts compared to 25th Anniversary.

[QUOTE=Goin' Commando;5301777]I think he just means thematically- 2008 was modern figures on retro cards so to speak.

In order to understand the changes they made with regard to guns, the key phrase to keep in mind is "reproducible violence". The idea for decades has been to keep the action kids see outside the realm of what they can accomplish, which is why the Joes used laser guns, Power Rangers don't use martial arts anymore, characters haven't been thrown through glass since the '80s, etc..
So while bombs and scythes are capable of great violence, they're not readily available. Kids don't have access to those things to the same extent as windows or guns (the US has more guns than people!) and that ability to reproduce the violence they see is the key to the decisions they make. Not saying I agree with it, but it's good to know the thinking that fuels it. All of this! Barring the Cobra Triumvirate, I am 100% about vehicles for this retro line. |

So are blockbuster films that have filled the coffers and pockets with massive amounts of cash of the Hollywood elite abolish guns from their films? No one more than Hollywood has elevated gun culture to the highest of peaks. Hypocrisy knows no bounds.
In any case I do hope that the retro figures come with lots of guns. After all they are military style action figures. Last edited by Formulazl1; 06-17-2020 at 09:17 PM.. |

My money is on using same molds from vintage 80s figures. Hasbro is doing the same thing with Star Wars right now, reproducing 70s/80s using same molds and selling them at full retail that's an insult. If they maybe wanted to double pack a vintage reproduction with a modern figure and charge $3 or $4 more I may understand that but 5 poa stuff at full current retail for what modern figures cost? I guess nostalgia sells. *♂️ that's just me, though. More power to those who want to revisit their youth or start their youngins playing with same toys they had when they were little...or completionists who just want it to add to their collection...or anyone who is willing to buy it for whatever their reason. No hate from me, I just find it insulting and I'll hold out for Snake Eyes movie line.

That said, Joe is a military toyline. You can do a lot to soften the edges, not fall into jingoism, or alter the means/methods of force to reduce injury/death, but it's still an inherently violent concept. Getting rid of guns in a more-or-less modern military line is like making a Barbie with sculpted clothes! Sure, one or two here and there for variety's sake, but shifting the whole line over? That's not right... |

Real guns have been mostly a no-no in children’s programming since at least the 1970s.... Those Elmer Fudd shorts were made in the 30s.
Is it dumb? Yes. Has it also been this way for almost 50 years? Also yes.

I'm more worried about the card art than the weapons. I have plenty of weapons I can outfit them with (If I get a set to open) but if they photoshop the heck out of the card art to remove the guns I don't know if I'll be interested at all.

They had better use the same/very similar card art that was used on the original figures re: this retro packaging - or I'm collecting this line. I did like the card art that was used on the 2007-on 25th anniversary figures - i.e., it was very similar to the original but the orange/white "explosions" behind the figure were slightly different than the art in the original '80's cards.
