Put the froze joint in a cup of hot water and let it sit for a minute to heat up, and then carefully mess with it till it moves. This is what I normally do to stuck joints, and most of the time hot water from the sink works. |

I don't have the figure but I am assuming you mean he has a stuck elbow joint.

Put a coffee mug of water in the microwave for 3 min. Then put him in the hot water for about 40 sec. He should be ready to move then.

One thing I do before moving any joint, is I try moving it right at the joint and if it seems tight, then I'll run it under hot water. Never move the joint from the other end until after it's moved for the first time. (eg. Don't try to move elbow joint while holding his hand, put your finger right up against the elbow joint so you don't have the leverage to snap it).
The problem is that the pegs used are small so if you hold far away from the joint, any resistance can snap it if you hold far away as you have the whole arm as the lever arm to give you the leverage to snap it. It kind of sucks that's how the toys are nowadays. In the 80's, this was not something I ever had to worry about.

So what I find curious is how much Hasbro appears to be "out sourcing" a lot of the GI Joe work. I know the 6 inch line has a lot of different artists involved that don't appear to be Hasbro and the Retro Line has had Ken Christiansen do some work as well. Based on his post it doesn't look like Ken is Hasbro. Makes me wonder if everything's outsourced and such.
Granted I've never really super tracked down who did what design so this may be the norm... |

Checked out another wal mart near me - they had nothing - not even the pegs with the retro fig labels on them.

Granted I've never really super tracked down who did what design so this may be the norm... Hasbro does a lot of contract work, depending on their needs. Probably to keep on hand staffing costs low. So it really isn't a big "thing". We don't tend to hear a lot about such things is because we're seeing a LOT more "reference designing", where toys are being designed more after existing reference material (cartoon or comic designs). Or in the case of most Retro, Hasbro's using existing available assets.

Hasbro does that a LOT with other lines. Ken Christianson has done a TON of design work for Transformers, as has Emiliano Santalucia (notable for his Masters of the Universe work in the early 2000s).

I got my fang and pilot the other day and I'm kind of underwhelmed. It didn't seem to be in good scale with the 4" modern Joe figures and seemed to be cheaper toy then the original mold. The screws are all on one side of the body of the copter making it look good from only one profile side. Action Media Reviews on youtube said this Retro Fang is actually a Chap-Mei copter retooled for the Gi Joe Retro line and after search I found he's right. That's kind of cheap even for Hasbro IMO if they couldn't/didn't think the original Fang would seat a modern 4" figure well then inset-lower the seat on it like they did the retro HISS and give us a mold that doesn't show the screw holes all over one side. |
