Admittedly, though, still on the fence if I want this figure. Wish the mask was removable, not molded.

I just watched the Mark Weber video in which he discusses the guy who is currently in charge. Thanks to the people who posted it.
Mark Weber is one of my favorite people in the world, and I enjoy getting his insight whenever I can. I think what is telling about what he had to say is the pronouns that he used. Sentences like “he is helping us” are telling and reveal what I already knew, that Mark isn’t a former brand manager who is a fan, but he’s a fan who happened to have been given the opportunity to be the brand manager. In this context, when Mark says that he is happy that Maher is in charge, that fills me with confidence and lets me believe that there are going to be some really good things coming in the near future. ...and agreed. I’ll continue to call him The Mustache because it’s now a term of endearment, and I’ll look forward to better designed figures thst are hopefully on the way. ...but Mustache? Don’t over-hype garbage when you know it’s garbage (Duke). That’s how you lose credibility FAST.

So I watched the entire podcast that this came from. This 5 min blurb is just a response to a comment about the mustache being high.
Earlier in the podcast, they talk about the last 3 Retro figures, and how disappointed they were in them. Mark Webber was also disappointed by that Duke. So after watching the entire podcast, and seeing this Fang review, I have no confidence in the mustache being the one to keep 4" Joe's alive.

Weber said it's other people's work that was being displayed, which of course would be true of any repack at this point. But who chose WHICH repack to do? If Mr. Moustache wasn't involved with the Fang revisions and the Fang Pilot design, who do we suppose was? Vala? Weber? Someone made a piece of trash and as far as we know, nobody was on the brand between Vala and Moustache. If there was a third person involved, I'd love to know who it was and what happened to this individual. If not, we're presumably looking at one of the two people we already know, right? As much as I tend to dislike Vala's kit-bashing technique (I'd buy that the new HISS driver could be Vala at work...swivel wrists just to avoid elbow pads!), that Fang pilot doesn't look like what I would expect from Vala's work on an original build.

But that still leaves us with the question of who is to blame for two things:

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the new Fang pilot is not even a G.I. Joe sculpt or a figure originally intended for the G.I. Joe lineup. There is just too much about this figure that screams Fortnite to me. The build, the design, everything (to me) looks like a Fortnite figure. Given the early rumors that the folks at Fortnite were going to have some involvement in the Joe line, it wouldn't surprise me if the Fang Pilot was some unused, kit-bashed, or customized-like Fortnite figure. Your #2 point, though, is the most inexcusable for Hasbro. I keep giving Hasbro the benefit of the doubt concerning "treed" or "sprued" parts, meaning that Hasbro currently only has the tooling for certain arms to go with a particular torso and/or a certain combination to create a particular figure. The problem here is, like you pointed out, Hasbro already has existing "ultimate" figures even if those parts do not exactly replicate their ARAH counterparts. If I had any hair, I would pull it out, but it just makes no sense to me why someone on the Hasbro-Joe team can't figure out that all they have to do is take a Flint DOTD/Retaliation Firefly body and paint it in the color scheme of ARAH Duke? I'b be willing to bet that the vast majority of collectors would be OK if not elated to have this figure on a "retro" card. It's like any forthcoming, rumored Cobra/Officer figures. Don't screw them up by releasing the Missile Command figures on a card, just put the POC/DG figure with an updated paint job on a card. One part of me wonders if the "retro" line isn't just an afterthought to fill space due to COVID until the Snake Eyes movie releases. Maybe "the Mustache" sculpted/created new figures for that line, and is just a part of the team cobbling parts together for the "retro" line. Jason |

Yikes after seeing the reviews of the Fang, I won’t be needing more than 1 of those.
I’ll just be trying to find one to display in the Retro Style box. The 25th Fang is a nice looking design but the figures don’t fit well. I wanted to hang one in a display and I ended up removing a Cobra Trooper’s feet so that he fits properly. He sits correctly once the feet are removed.
