Only when I read the G.I. Joe Classified threads... those collectors have it rough, compared to us old school 1:18 collectors.

I’m enjoying the quick turnaround time on these G.I. Joe Retro vehicles with figures at Walmart, and was just thinking about that now as I looked at the Julian dates on the box date stamps.
The A.W.E. Striker vehicle with Crankcase was announced April 14th, manufactured on August 1st, and discovered in stores as early as September 14th (California). Similarly, the H.I.S.S. Tank with driver was also announced April 14th, and manufactured on July 8th. After enduring so many Kickstarters or the Collector’s Club pre-orders for the past several years, having a retail store option for buying G.I. Joe (if we can find it anywhere) is much preferred. HasLab is exciting for me only in that it keeps alive my childhood dream of someday purchasing the COBRA air force CH-54 Tarhe heavy-lift helicopter with advanced troop carrying pods which has featured so prominently in the G.I. Joe comics throughout the decades. Such a vehicle in 1:18 scale could appeal to vintage O-ring collectors, 25th or 50th Anniversary collectors, or G.I. Joe Retro collectors who are new to this product line. It doesn’t seem any more improbable to me than the HasLab Star Wars Razor Crest does, except that it might require more days to meet minimum funding goals. |

Yes. I should be taking pictures. One Walmart had 2 pegs full with nothing but Destros and Roadblocks. My local Walmart had some yesterday but today down to one Destro.

...all of the Star Wars HasLab projects have been scaled to 3.75"...HasLab is aimed for hardcore collectors, so I would guess to keep costs reasonable, and to appeal to many older collectors, they would actually target a HasLab project to the 1:18 scale, even if Classified is knocking the pants off Retro in terms of sales and availability.
That would be amazing! They could even offer different pods as stretch goals. I had a CORGI diescast one of these as a kid. A medical/MASH type setup. Such a cool vehicle. Memory of dad stepping on/crushing it because I left it on the stairs. Good times. |
