I probably missed the joke at some point within this long thread, but I can’t help but to wonder why so many keep calling him “Mustache”, instead of his name, Mark Maher.

It seemed like we used to call the others at Hasbro by their names on HissTank, whether that be Derryl Depriest, John Warden, Mark Weber, etc., but this guy doesn’t even get that courtesy. Did he do something I don’t know about which earned our disrespect?

Granted, I’m not entirely convinced either that this G.I. Joe Retro line product designer is really a G.I. Joe fan, because he seems to have a genuine love for Transformers (and has a Decepticon tattoo), but his past connection to G.I. Joe, if any, seems questionable. Maybe more will be revealed concerning that if he stays with the team for future waves of G.I. Joe.

For several years, Mark Maher was an artist with Overspray Studios, before working for Hasbro with BonkaZonks and Transformers.

I think it’s because of his absurd mustache.

The Mustache nickname is because of the hipster mustache the guy was wearing in the Retro reveal event that a livestream. In it he didn't seem that aware of the Joe characters or even the specific products he was displaying at the time. It felt like they just grabbed a guy and told him to do the livestream and act overly excited about what are basically reissued figures with new card art and as a result I don't think many in the fandom felt he had much personal interest the Joe line. To me it just felt like a bad infomercial even though I personally was happy about the Retro line itself.

I call him moustache, not out of disrespect but, because of his big ass moustache. Didn't we call Derryl DePriest, The Priest and Double D's? Didn't we also call Mark Weber, The Web Slinger and Marky Mark? It's guys being guys.

You're right, we should show him more respect. He did save the Mushroom Kingdom and rescue the princess many times- even though she always seemed to be "in another castle".

If Mark Maher’s HissTank nickname of “Mustache” spreads to other toy forums, perhaps his Hasbro co-workers will begin friendly teasing with him about it at the job, and cause him to become known as “Mustache” at the workplace.

He might like the name, actually. That’ll be funny if it gets mentioned during Hasbro Pulsecon three weeks from now.

It started after a HasbroPulse livestream in which he seemed drunk and didn't know jack shit about GI Joe. He spoke to fans like these weren't figures we've seen before. He even acted like "foot holes" for figure stands were a new thing. Imagine a high school teacher who had only heard of GI Joe in passing yet was then asked to give a presentation about "new" product. It was really weird and painful to watch.

I really doubt he will be back. With the brand taking off, I suspect we'll see some new folks (there was even a job posting at one point about a GI Joe brand manager).
