...For Me personally, "JvsC/Spy-Troops/VvsV/DTC" was probably my all-time Joe-Highlight period, lol! I got into collecting Joes again around 2006, and those lines were plentiful, easy to acquire, and cheap to collect! Plus that was a great period where you didn't have greedy-ass scalpers doing double-quadruple markup on everything, so it was pretty easy to get almost whatever you wanted!

...Yeah, Plus the retail availability really made collecting fun! I remember just being able to walk into pretty much ANY store and find Joe stuff! Even during the DTC/TrU era, you could amass that stuff without breaking a sweat! I bought SO many of the DTC Saw-Vipers, lol...

I do think it's interesting to think that within one year, we could, conceivably, get Duke, Roadblock, and Snake Eyes in the same attire in 3 scales (world's smallest, 3 3/4", 6"), depending on what "retro" Hasbro goes with and what "Classified" variations we get. |

The line also suffered from a collecting community in flux, and just as we saw in 2008 and 2009, the community talked a bigger game than they had. Despite being offered for retail, collectors balked at having to take the effort to order their toys online. By late 2006, Hasbro cleared out their inventory for pennies on the dollar (I recall $5-ish HISS Tanks and RHINOs for less than $15), and STILL had significant numbers of single figures and multipacks to dump at Toys R Us. It's worth remembering that DTC saw MORE stuff released for it in 2005 than 25th did in 2007. Including large vehicles that the ME wouldn't even get until the movie. MattyCollector, in comparison, launched in 2009 where online shopping was more prevalent and was fashioned more as a "boutique" retailer than Hasbro Toy Shop's "supplementary mass retail" position. In addition, Matty RARELY carried that much on hand, and its focus on collectibles allowed it to keep inventory and processing costs down. It's a LOT easier to run a collectibles site if you only add 1-3 items a month (at best). Even then, MattyCollector was struggling to remain viable at the end, basically sticking around to finish out the Masters of the Universe Classics line and clear out SDCC and other collector junk. It is worth noting that we're seeing some shift in Hasbro's position, with a LOT more product being designed and produced for the collector (ie, fan-channel) retailers. The big difference is that they aren't committing to rolling out an entire toy line through that effort.
