I'm specifically interested in why there seems to be so much interest in what's essentially a handful of re-released figures that have seen plenty of releases.
But this small "retro" collection baffles me cause it seems like it's nothing anybody wanted. It's ME figures on mismatched vintage art. Did anyone want that? Yet, there are tons of people that seem very eager to buy them. Obviously these figures were intended to be side by side with movie versions of Baroness, Snake Eyes, and Storm Shadow. They bizarrely didn't offer the best versions of each (either by using the wrong mold or omitting key accessories, like Snake Eyes V1 head). But I see nothing but upside for the line. If they don't do new molds for Duke and Scarlett, then my enthusiasm will wane. But I'm hopeful for the future and happy to support 3.75" at retail.

I bought these mainly for the custom parts. I'll see how that new crankcase head looks on my "ultimate crankcase" custom. The Hiss driver will be a welcomed addition to my collection as it's better than the 25th version. SS and SE is mainly custom fodder, and I want to see the new face paint on Baroness to see if it looks better than the SDCC Baroness (my current ultimate baroness).
I'm an opener so I probably will not keep the card art. I have 3D Joe's books if I want to look at that. I hope we get new builds and decos for Duke, Scarlett, and RB. If not, then they will not be bought.

What kind of answer is that?
I didn't ask "Why do you collect GI Joe toys?" I'm specifically interested in why there seems to be so much interest in what's essentially a handful of re-released figures that have seen plenty of releases. I understand the hype for Classified. It's brand new. It's exciting. It's different. And I even understand why so many collectors DISLIKE Classified. But this small "retro" collection baffles me cause it seems like it's nothing anybody wanted. It's ME figures on mismatched vintage art. Did anyone want that? Let us now forget that the reality of any 3.75 line right now is that it will be riddled with repacks and slight repaints.
I think this standard character selection, with good versions selected. And we've seen some new tooling with the HISS Driver and what looks like it may be a new headsculpt with Crankcase. So, if we manage to squeeze out a few new builds and a couple of new tools, that's about the best we can hope for, and I think it's a reasonable expectation. Compare this to Star Wars TVC. I imagine there will be some similarities. 3.75 will, seemingly, never again be produced in the fashion of 6" is currently. I never thought we'd get a line of 3.75 Joes again, quite frankly, and am choosing to optimistic at present until I have reasont to be otherwise. I customize enough to support the line in the early stages even if they aren't figuers I necessarily need.

Yes, though it was still more than I'd have expected a year ago. Point is, rather than focusing on these specifically, I look to them as evidence that stuff I do want to buy will be available soon enough.

Serious question....
What's generating the interest in these for you? They're not really worth keeping on the card as a display piece cause the figures don't even match. As openers I suppose they're good but I gotta believe, as amazing as these renditions of Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow are, (arguably the best ever) most of us have had several opportunities to grab them over the years. I could understand genuine excitement for actual repro figures on repro cards, like they just did with Star Wars. And I can also understand the appeal of having an updated figure but the vintage card, but we got all of those already with the 25th and on. So what's the appeal to these? Just the fact that they're "new" 3 3/4 Joes? For the vehicles, I feel that this is how they should have come packaged in 2008. Yes I have them all too, but I do want them in the vintage boxes. So yes, I’m rebuying then for the packaging. I’ve been asking for this.

Well, what's the appeal to any of this shit? I mean, we're adults buying kid's toys. Wtf is up with that? This is like when Bill Moyers asked Joe Campbell if mythology was about finding "the meaning of life." And Campbell replied (to paraphrase), "...what meaning? There is no meaning. That's a question with no answer. Better to concentrate on what really matters, the here and the now. These stories are about the experience of being alive."

The vintage carded figures were exciting in 2007/8 so it isn’t as exciting for me now but the vehicle boxes are still exciting for me.

Yeah Axon, that’s exactly what it this line will be. I think there are some great things that can be done with what’s out there but aside from a new head (if that) this is going to be a kit bash line. The best we can hope for is an offically, factory painted verison of some of our customs.
