Not trying to be That Guy or anything, but going by this definition of retro: imitative of a style, fashion, or design from the recent past. Then this line definitely qualifies as retro. I know it's semantics, but I'm a creative writing major, so semantics pop up a lot for me. And I would agree that it's a buzzword that gets bandied about a lot with vintage, classic, and so on, so it's valid to think of it that way, but what they put out technically fits the label.

Why do people keep saying "not really retro". Look up the definition of retro people, this is exactly that.
Edit: just saw Garter's post. Thank you, it's been driving me batshit. |

Yeah I'm wondering how well other character will look.
no they save quite a bit more than a few pennies Well I definitely want an AWE Striker & HISS tank! I would also like a Baroness at least if her face is painted nicely. Hopefully I can find these in stores whenever they are going to be stocked. It would have been cooler if the HISS Tank had actual treads this time around. I am surprised at the o-ring speculators. Hasbro themselves clearly stated that they would never make them again. They even destroyed the molds I heard. Maybe someday they'll reproduce the o-ring Joes, it would make for a great SDCC set for ARAH's 40th anniversary in 2022. It's not that far fetched, considering the other "retro" vintage reproduction lines Hasbro has going. Transformers, Ghostbusters and Kenner Star Wars figures. |

People who were hoping for o-ring design were most likely using the Star Wars retro line as a guide. Thinking that the GI Joe Retro line was going to be o-ring version of ARAH GI Joes. I know Hasbro in the past had said they would never do O ring style figures again. That style/process is dead. GI Joe ARAH hero took Mego CHiPs figures and painted them green and did mock ups to sell the idea/line to management according to the documentary the Toys That Made Us. Glad to see GI Joe back. Hope we get a few additional waves beyond the 2 already mentioned before the end of the year. Maybe Toyfare 2021 will have some more big GI Joe Retro reveals.

Why does everyone want oring so bad? No company that I know of unless a kickstarter or something makes oring figures anymore. Its a dead design. I personally wouldn't pay 12 bucks for a oring style figure. Maybe one of my favorites but that would be it. They are ugly. Think its more of a nostalgia thing then a cool figure thing imo. Oring died in the 90s so let it stay dead...........
Now as the retro line I like the fact they went with modern sculpts but not sure why they picked the ones they did. They could have went different sculpts like the retaliation ultimate storm shadow and the retaliation ultimate snake eyes. Honestly I cant list them all but their are other snake eyes they could have picked. Baroness is kind of a weird shoe in but I like the figure. The hisstank is awesome and is retro in a modern way if that makes sense. The striker I have not really looked at because that vehicles doesn't really do anything for me. Would have been cool if they went with a mobat instead. I think they did a modern update of that in a target set years ago but dont quote me on that. Over all not bad.
