If you missed them, you need to go back and read them.

At first just now, I didn't think it was unusual for kids back then to be unaware of the comic--just like any comic in the last 40 years. But then remembered that there were just as many commercials for the comic as there for the toys. GI Joe was pretty unique in that aspect. If you missed them, you need to back and watch them.

For me, the cartoon was hard to catch, didn’t come on a regular station as far as I knew. But the comic was for sale at the local gas station and a grocery store and I had a subscription to it for years. So Gi joe at its core was always the comic mythos to me. My cousin had the treasury edition of edition 1. I still have my original comics, most from about issue 4 to in the 70’s I think.

Around that time Target was selling 3 pack Marvel Comic reprints, which let me catch up on most previous Joe comics (as well as Secret Wars). I have to remember how...we got on this tangent... |

Several volumes of the Marvel comics are available on iTunes, etc. as GI Joe Classics for $1.99 for 10 issues and the presentation is very clean, not scans, and it's as if they outputted the pages straight to digital.
I re-read the issue of SE, SS, Stalker in 'Nam in digital and remembered that from the comic. Apparently I didn't read the one where a Fred was revealed to be among that squad with those guys. When I heard podcasts mention Civil War, I assumed that was some more recent story. It showed Zartan is the man. |

Joe is actually what got me into comics. I didn't branch out to the x titles or Batman until they canceled gi Joe.
I can remember quite a few of the issues, Probably most of them, especially 100 up.

Anyway, by the late 80s I had branched out and become a full-blown comics nerd. But Joe was the beginning.

Never read the comics, the cartoon was an every morning pre-school ritual with breakfast.
Knowing they can be bought via kindle for 99? for 10 issues, I'm checking out at least the first archive. Looking forward to it.

I'm sure they pre-date the 3.75" line but I fondly recall the GI Joe record/comic books. I think that primed my interest in the line(along with seeing the cousin-who-got ever-things toys).
