I like the modern retro figures, I just want more of them, and frankly, they should be easy to buy. Stalker was easy enough, but I had to go back several times to Walmart.com to get Grunt(s). I know they don't want to overproduce, but I am thinking that the marginal cost to produce more is likely only a few cents per figure, and if they have to clearance them later, they already made money on the ones they sold at retail.
I have never worked in manufacturing but I have a fair bit of transportation and logistics experience with DoD and the merchant marine. It isn't just things like payroll that drive production overseas but rather the entire regulatory atmosphere. For example, accidentally dropping a rag with paint or oil into the water in California is technically a felony, but in certain foreign countries, they tossed empty paint cans overboard. Not sayng I like that, but when mishaps become felonies, there is less incentive to do business there. I think the retro line will do better if they release better characters. And frankly, I like the classified style mostly, I am just not going to buy into 6 inch. and really, does anyone think the O-rings look better than ME figures?

Go out on the Hasbro Pulse social accounts, find today's GI Joe panel post, and post about wanting more Retro.

However, even beyond that I can't imagine Hasbro would sink any kind of tooling dollars into Retro if they didn't have longer term plans. As mentioned, that new Stalker buck alone still has a handful of uses beyond just Stalker and Grunt. Why would Hasbro waste that money instead of just re-issuing 25th/50th molds perhaps either exactly the same or with new color schemes? They didn't have to invest a thing and the line still would have sold for the nostalgia factor alone. Last edited by Stygian; 10-19-2021 at 01:50 PM.. |

^ I am you as well, Stygian. I even bought Duke for the card art. On sale, but I did.
I know it's off-brand for GI Joe but I kind of wish Retro were launched the same way TVC was: with numbered card backs. It was off-brand for SW back in 2010 and today has greatly added to the line's collectibility as it comes up on number 250. |

I just want more figures beyond two in a wave! In the 80's you were guaranteed at least 5+ in a wave (more if you counted vehicle drivers), but today we get a measly two?! :-)

Would be but Star Wars is a cash cow. Those figures are purchased by everyone. GI Joe is purchased by adults and not so much a cash cow. Maybe a cash pheasant.

Have to agree. It may be looking at o-ring figures through the rose colored glasses of childhood nostalgia but I’d take vintage o-ring over ME any day. Not to say I do not like the ME joes because they are great and I can still remember how cool I thought the 25th anniversary figs were - new build style but remained true to paying homage to the original figs. ME figs are great for display but not as good for playability and there was some accessory overload (I think the retro figs have done a good job scaling back some on accessories). O-ring figures offer both playability and display without the accessory overload with less attention to detail and a more limited articulation. Granted o-ring figures were built with kids in mind while the modern construction figs are targeted more towards adults collectors.
