Hasbro saying they have not forgotten about oring fans might not be that they are actually doing oring figures but just how the era of oring was. They could mean the card art, the figure style, etc. but not necessarily doing oring figures themselves. Remember Hasbro has a weird way of thinking what fans want.

This is precisely why I don't collect vintage MOC despite how awesome they look.

I figured we would have seen hints/findings of a new wave by now. Probably Zap and Short-Fuze since I bought extra Grunts to make them.

I'd be shocked if it doesn't continue as the figures and vehicles consistently sell at every Walmart I've visited. In fact (I've stated this before, so forgive me stating it again) my local Walmart recently got in 5+ cases of the blue HISS and they seem to be moving slowly but surely, same with the retro figures. New waves comes in and they don't last long. Stalker seems to be hanging around longer than others, but I'm sure that figure will disappear soon as well. Seems silly to invest in tooling for the new Stalker buck and not get at least Zap and a few more Cobra troopers out before calling it a day.

I like the modern retro figures, I just want more of them, and frankly, they should be easy to buy. Stalker was easy enough, but I had to go back several times to Walmart.com to get Grunt(s). I know they don't want to overproduce, but I am thinking that the marginal cost to produce more is likely only a few cents per figure, and if they have to clearance them later, they already made money on the ones they sold at retail.
I have never worked in manufacturing but I have a fair bit of transportation and logistics experience with DoD and the merchant marine. It isn't just things like payroll that drive production overseas but rather the entire regulatory atmosphere. For example, accidentally dropping a rag with paint or oil into the water in California is technically a felony, but in certain foreign countries, they tossed empty paint cans overboard. Not sayng I like that, but when mishaps become felonies, there is less incentive to do business there. I think the retro line will do better if they release better characters. And frankly, I like the classified style mostly, I am just not going to buy into 6 inch. and really, does anyone think the O-rings look better than ME figures? |
