Great song. It'd do people some good to actually listen to it.
This one too, for that matter. Or not and carry on. *shrug* |

What you’re saying is true, I’ll give you that.
I suspect that shelf space shrunk because stores had been oversaturated with Rise of Cobra product, which finally had to be clearance or given away to charity. Everyone was drowning in it. Once bitten, twice shy. Who could fault retailers for not wanting to take another chance? But then, despite some of the best figures in the history of the ARAH-style Joe line, it kept shrinking. That had absolutely nothing to do with RoC. RoC was gone. Retailers don't give a hoot about what happened a year or more ago if the current quarter/year is profitable. If PoC had been a massive success, the logical result would have been expansion of the line. Likely a measured expansion as retailers wouldn't have gone whole hog like they did for RoC, but I think it's safe to assume that if a product was making them as much or more money than they wanted from it, they would either maintain or expand it. Instead...it shrunk. Prior to Retaliation (The first release, not the second) it was basically on life support. Quote:
With the G.I Joe Retaliation fiasco which followed (put out product, pull it back, and put it out again), I suppose that many retailers had finally had enough with the foolishness. Only Toys ‘R Us was willing to take a chance, because for them it was either sell toys or perish. They perished.
Then the Retaliation delay aggravated that "production rift" to the point where Hasbro itself didn't have much choice but to halt development/production for the better part of a year, and yeah...retailers gave up. But the underlying point being if 30th product had been raking in profits like gangbusters they (the retailers) would've likely come back for a post-Retaliation "classic" product. Quote:
But speaking of projecting hopes, what sort of shelf space are we expecting to see at retail this year for the G.I. Joe Classified 6” figures? I really have no idea what to expect.

At the 2016 G.I. Joe Convention, we were told by Hasbro reps that it wasn’t the kids buying this product. It was adult collectors. Hasbro failed to offer media tie-ins, and the kids had no interest.
Where is the media tie-in now? There isn’t one. At least, not until the Snake Eyes film later this year. If you were to ask me, Hasbro's putting this initial wave or two out as an "appetizer" for collectors prior to the movie product, but indications are that unlike in the past, they will be selling these alongside the movie product (instead of converting to "ALL MOVIE"). And I suspect that it is the line that will continue (assuming a reasonable degree of successful sales/profits) after the movie product has come and gone. Or at least that is what I expect Hasbro's intent to be. Most indications are that the movie isn't likely to be expansive enough to warrant multiple years of action figure waves. |
