The writing was on the wall for this one. They spent an entire year working on a major update without streaming out any new content, which caused many players to leave. I held on despite the monotony thinking that it would gain steam once they finally finished the new update.
When the update finally came, all it did was change the battle system, which nobody ever thought needed to be changed. Most of the players that held on this long, left in droves after that FUBAR. I once again held on thinking they would start pumping out new characters now that the big update was done, but all we got were those 2 aircraft, and then silence. Eventually the chore got the better of me, and I just couldn't bring myself to play anymore. That was over a month ago. Glad to see them pull the plug sooner rather than later for those unfortunate souls who were still hanging on. In addition to losing players with the update, I was skeptical that they could be replaced with new ones. After all, how do you attract new players to a game that's been out for over a year? This should have never happened. So many characters and vehicles to pump out and they literally instead put all their eggs on an unneeded and unwanted update.

Why not just let it linger? The code is already there.

It's not about "the code". FEW of these mobile games actually have that much installed onto the actual device, they all connect to servers to run a majority of the actual games. Which means someone has to pay the costs for keeping servers, revenue systems, and the support people for those systems.
And that's not even considering if it's a license issue, at which point it might well be a situation that War on Cobra wasn't making enough money to justify the continued cost of the license ON TOP of the other support costs.

That's basically the definition of any games. It's a time killer. I've spent many hours beating Halo, Call of Duty, etc., in the end I had a good time but nothing tangible came out of it. Same with this game, I really like some of the designs for the characters (would LOVE to dream that Cover Girl as an action figure some day), but as in all games, it was fun while it lasted.

Yeah, mobile games are something you have to go into knowing that they may be canned at some point. Other than really major stuff like Pokemon Go, most mobile games are more likely than not to be shuttered. That's honestly why I don't actually spend money on them. Also why I rarely play them. I prefer games that I can have forever. I got into this one because I love G.I. Joe. I figured it would die eventually, but not this quick.

Despite the repetitive nature of the gameplay and the update hiccups, I enjoyed the game and am going to miss it.
