If my "diatribes" are so "boring" why do you often reply to my posts and demand that I be banned from this site? Seems like I capture your attention all the time and you feel compelled to take the time out of your day to think about me and respond to me. That would be the opposite of boring.
Again don't respond to people who you don't want talking to you, that's what they want. |

Just don't respond. We all have our own opinions of where these toy lines should go and what we want. When the 6" line came out, everyone complained about how much gold was on everything. Hasbro toned it down after people complained. Then they all went after the regal/supreme Cobra Commander... GOLD!!!
Hasbro deserves credit for listening to people and releasing some really great versions of Baroness, the Trooper, Beach Head, and (probably) Zartan and toning down what they could from the initial artwork that came out.

I definitely trust Marauder's quality. I might wait until he does his big restock and throw those in. But I'm not sure I want to wait 4+ weeks for them.

When I first saw the icons on the side of the new boxes my first thought wasn't "this is them modernizing the brand", they can spin it any way they want, but this is really how you do a file card on modern packaging without having it look like the disaster that is the "retro" file card. They say "globalization" and "modernization", but what they mean is cutting costs by having one unified packaging for global branding where they can ship them off to anywhere in the world without having to deal with ever changing language laws. Then they can cross-sell this by having consumers check on the website to figure out what those little pictures mean and get a fuller "file-card" on a website that can feature current characters, tease up coming ones, and give information about other branded stuff people can throw their money at. The execution of that falls well short mind you, but that's really the idea behind it all. Sell, sell, sell.

No one’s really mad, though, that a company is trying to sell, sell, sell, right?

I think if the website is done right the Icon codes on the boxes can really work well. Mind you I have the idea of putting the classified line on cards with original 80s graphics on the front and the original style file cards on the back (updated with new info that connects to the comics and other media). The work around for other countries is to put a postit style multiple countries over it that can just be peeled off. The new 6" star wars empire carded figures are amazing. And the sell sell sell is what the company wants, and then we get more cool stuff!

The type of people GI Joe attracts aren't anti-Americana. Just saying. Hasbro is way over-thinking this.
If they really wanted to go down the path of 'EVERYONE HATES AMERICA. HOW DO WE SELL A LINE DRENCHED IN AMERICAN EXCEPTIONALISM?!' why didn't they just copyright Action Force again, before Vala did, and have two production lines. America gets GI Joe, rest of the world gets Action Force? MGurlea is 100% correct when he says GI Joe is only associated with Americans. No one else uses that term. Isn't that what they did in previous decades? The line had a different name and packaging for the international markets? I guess Hasbro is too cheap to do that again now? Quit whining about it and buy your own guns -- there are plenty of realistic looking weapons out there for 6-inch figures.
And they are TOYS, which means use your imagination. If you want to make them American, make them American. If someone from Europe wants to make them Action Force, they can make them Action Force and British. "Hey guys, can we please talk about just how perfect this new line is and how absolutely perfect every single figure is." Not all posts are going to be that. Deal with it. And I have bought new guns for my figures off of Bobby Vala. But the point is I should not have too. I bet there are others here, like me, that would appreciate it if we didn't have to order our guns separately and spend more money. Last edited by MGurlea; 10-26-2020 at 04:23 AM.. |

Found this... I think they are looking at the original card backs.
