I am asking seriously because I have to say, Classified figures are vastly superior to both of them. The figures stand easier, seem like they are sturdier construction, and have a lot more detail on their outfits. I don't love every sculpt (Scarlett and Cobra Commander are both serious outfit misfires to me), but the figures are of excellent quality. I am shocked that a line many would say is their third (at best) most important just seems a lot better made than Star Wars or Marvel figures.

I have no interest in anything Marvel... but I do have a handful of Black Series Star Wars. I'm just going off my impressions of the few that I own. Overall, I would rate Snake Eyes Pulse at the cream of the crop - with Mandalorian second. I really like the build and feel of the BS Stormtroopers. BS Gammorrean Guard is another top shelf figure in my book. As much as I like Beachhead and Cobra Commander - they both 'feel' like big hunks of plastic to me. Not sure why... that special something is just missing.
It should also be noted that I don't own the two best looking Classified figures: Cobra Trooper or Baroness. I've never even been able to get a Destro... so I'm going off more of the looks of them than the in-hand feeling. Last edited by captain mal; 12-05-2020 at 11:26 PM.. |

I think the design team has a tough task just because they're building on the 80's line. How many other toy lines in that era went for 14 years? It went from closely military inspired to wild and out there. They have a huge fan base that's all over the place to try and please. In terms of collectors there really 2 generations between original 80's Joe fans and 90's Joe fans. You're right in one thing, hit the right sculpt first, but if there's anything that GI Joe is it's always evolving. There's room for a lot of different versions. To me the real essence of Joe isn't hard line military, it's just right beside it, based on but not exactly real world. Not exactly military uniforms but close enough to show individual personality but fit in to a military unit.
I'm going to expand on my post earlier today. What I'm exactly looking for in terms of colour saturation and look would be most personified by Lady Jaye, Beachhead and Stalker's original toys. All three are are 'Green Army Guy/Girl', much like the current Beachhead and Lady Jaye figure, Roadblock too I guess. But the saturation of the colour is higher, the toys are visually appealing. Also I think Lady Jaye's face is much nicer, but that's another point and more to do with direction. These three toys draw you in, the greens are very pleasant and vibrant. They're loud and not totally 'realistic', but not garish. Frankly? All three are perfect in terms of colour choices and placement. They run rings around their Classified versions and a fair few of their modern versions too. |

Am I missing something or are the Scarlett and Roadblock repaints not up for pre order? I will say it seems kinda odd the first non exclusive repaints they're releasing are the slow sellers from wave 1. If the idea is to just release w1 in muted/more realistic colors why not start with say Duke and Scarlett. Then in the next wave do Destro and Roadblock. This to me seems like it would greatly lower the chance of having peg warmers plus get the harder to find figures re released.
I think it's a good thing they're trying to get W1 back on shelves because my cousin who basically doesn't buy it unless he finds it in a store just found Scarlett. And I haven't seen W1 in a store since July. I actually pass on a Destro because I was like I'll find more when these fully start hitting stores. Now it's been going on 5 months since I saw a W1 restock and 3 months or so with W2. I want to support this line at retail but Wal Mart doesn't seem to care to stock them and well bleep Target. |

I'm not sure the generational thing is a big point. I was only around for the tail end of ARAH, 92/93/94 to be exact. The early figures still have a ton of appeal to me. I'm sure most of the 90s kids would be in the same boat, we have much more appreciation for the 90s toys than the 80s kids, but we like the toys that predate us too.

I got good news yesterday! Received an email from Amazon that my SS will FINALLY be shipping this month. I had about given up, but thank God they must of been restocked.
I ordered this figure along with CC and an extra RB (so they'd ship in a box) back in Sept!

I guess I'll throw in my thoughts to the two ongoing threads of discussion here.
For a fan whose first foray back into the franchise was Renegades, my metric for assessing the Classified figures is how much they resemble their Renegades counterparts. Now mind you, there appears to be little if any Renegades inspiration present in any of the figures insofar as their attire is concerned, so I refer to the colors. The new Scarlett and Roadblock are closer to what I'd want, although I thought the originals were serviceable too. As I don't have any Classified figures (yet), I can only speak from video reviews when I say that they seem to have more articulation, unique sculpting, and accessories than The Black Series and Marvel Legends (I have about a dozen modern figures between both lines). For instance, all of the Classified offerings have butterfly joints and lots of waist pivot. The budget for Classified seems higher -- maybe because it's one of Hasbro's in-house brands, so the budget doesn't have to factor in licensing? As time goes on though and the line grows older, I suspect the reusing of sculpts will expand. For now, there's not exactly an expansive library of parts to choose from.
