Hasbro’s 180 on this line is a little funny
At least it proves they’re hearing the fans that didn’t like the initial aesthetic |

The first wave was tied asthetically to the video game. Same asthetic. This was an easy repaint in "muted colors". Next, we'll get a repaint in "Vintage colors", which will of course be some sort of con exclusive and piss everyone off. |

I honestly don't think they're listening at all, tbh.

But Lenny seemed to imply in the first fan Friday thing that the line was evolving. And this came up in the discussion of Regal CC (who matches the box art). I just wish they had made the decision to go with a more streamlined look before the silly molds (like CC, Scarett, and some others) were made.

...But, I think Scarlett actually looks worse.

Roadblock's lower half seems a bit bland now, almost monotonous. I feel like it's missing something. Perhaps some metallic paint apps would help ...
Oh, and I must be blind, apparently. Because I'm not seeing a dramatic difference in/on Scarlett's face/head (certainly not one worthy of such excitement). Her hair still isn't nearly dark enough, imo. EDIT: Scratch that! Her new head is a drastic improvement, actually! (I wasn't paying attention before.)

Originally, based on the art, Cobra Commander (the regal variant), Baroness, and Lady Jaye were in the wilder color schemes. They all seem to have changed before production. I think Hasbro changed course based on reaction to the first wave. I don't think it's logical that they commissioned a ton of art based on the video game only to just make three characters in that style.

Neither Lenny nor Mark strike me as particularly big GI Joe fans, they seem to like the cartoon fine enough, but they come across more like Transformer fans who liked the Joe cartoon, while no one else has any attachment to it at all, they're just people doing a job to get the opportunity to work on something else as soon as they can. |

People railed against the gold so they heaved the gold. Which is fine in theory. However in practice Hasbro has completely overcompensated with new versions that are every bit as busy in design yet, in a "muted" way.

I really hope they don't go nuts and try to please the whiney fanboys too much and make this line too boring with overly military aesthetics and muted colors. GI Joe only was "military realistic-ish" for like one wave, it's always been out there with goofy outfits, bright colors, and lots of sci fi aesthetics of the 80s. Cobras especially were always wild and colorful.

Also the artwork included in the deluxe edition shows that they were working on the game based off of Hasbros designs, not the other way around. Quote:
The worst part of her figure to me is her absurd uniform, no matter how it is colored. She is wearing her quiver upside down for goodness sake. The shoulder pad and other random bits of armor just look silly.
The gold and the patches of blue and red on her don't help, but even if she was a perfectly painted and perfectly articulated figure, she would still be one of the worst figures released. Last edited by PanzerKrake; 12-04-2020 at 11:08 AM.. |

Under no circumstances should GI Joe have muted military colors. POC was terrible. It's always been more colorful and Forntite-esque - just look at how ARAH started with the OG13. |
