LOL! Remember there were some versions of Duke in the past that came with an American flag? I have attached what I am betting the new flag will look like that comes with a future 6" Duke down the road in the Classified Series.

Right. In print or not.
...and has this guy really forgotten about Adventure Team, which also moved away from war/military? Brands pivot all the time. C’mon, who cares. Waaay over-stated to match the actual product. I think the figures are great for those who dig 6” (I don’t, personally). Don’t like it, don’t buy it—no need for salty, boring diatribes. Oh yeah...don’t like it, scroll on. My bad! smdh. |

I have realized that we have lived through the 'peak' of America. We grew up at the pinnacle of American uniqueness, ingenuity, ambition, and creativity. This new era of one-world homogenization is just dull. Look at Disney for example. There is no question that Star Wars was much more successful, artistically, before Disney took over and tried to make it a global brand. Why does everything HAVE to be a global brand? A bit part of what makes the world so interesting and fun is that its DIFFERENT from place to place. I think back to when I was a kid - we would go from Ohio to Florida, and it would be 'different' - and that's part of what was fun about it. We had KMart, Childrens Palace, Gold Circle and Hills - they had Toys R Us, Walmart, etc. Now, I can go to Australia - and still walk into a Target that is virtually the same as what I have down the road here in America. ...and they still won't have Cobra Island figures.

Hama, the 80s toyline and Sunbow. That was the three headed trinity that created the peak of G.I. Joe.
Well, my thing with the retro line, the file cards (such as they are) are laughable and the lack of Real American Hero makes the packaging look bootleg. Both lazy, cheap and I'm sure woke sensibilities by people who are not as talented as those who came before them. My feeling is, whatever path you go, fine, but at least do it with care. Retro looks half baked. The packaging of Classified looks far better, but those power icons are pointless. I can remember things from the filecards from way back when; couldn't tell you want those icons are about nor do I care. As for G.I. Joe being international/global, Hasbro has been chasing that for quite awhile. The live action movies tried to play that game. Last edited by MGurlea; 10-25-2020 at 07:08 AM.. |

The type of people GI Joe attracts aren't anti-Americana. Just saying. Hasbro is way over-thinking this.
If they really wanted to go down the path of 'EVERYONE HATES AMERICA. HOW DO WE SELL A LINE DRENCHED IN AMERICAN EXCEPTIONALISM?!' why didn't they just copyright Action Force again, before Vala did, and have two production lines. America gets GI Joe, rest of the world gets Action Force? MGurlea is 100% correct when he says GI Joe is only associated with Americans. No one else uses that term. |

Changing a brand to make it more appealing to an entire world of consumers instead of a single nation seems to be a wise step for a global company.
Imagine a future where children and adults all of every nationality, of every culture, all around the world, can comfortably walk into their Target and see that all the goddamned Cobra Troopers are gone. I literally laughed out loud. |

Quit whining about it and buy your own guns -- there are plenty of realistic looking weapons out there for 6-inch figures.
And they are TOYS, which means use your imagination. If you want to make them American, make them American. If someone from Europe wants to make them Action Force, they can make them Action Force and British. |

Something like that yes. They do the same thing with Star Wars. The internet usually figures out the code before release anyway, so I'm not sure what the point is.
