That’s fine, but him having a momentary loss of self and then becoming a recluse to protect his friends and family was legacy destroying? |

From my own perspective, the Extended Universe stuff isn't canon (though I did like "Shadows of the Empire", no doubt aided by the video game and figures). On that note, I'm a purist, and so neither are the pre/sequel trilogies. It's funny how the sequel trilogy has caused me to look back and say "well, I guess the prequels weren't THAT bad".

Gotcha. Shadows of the Empire was canon until it wasn’t. Just like the 2003 Clone Wars cartoon (which I enjoyed way more than the 2008 CGI version).
And while the new trilogy is not perfect, it’s a million times better than the prequels (the movies proper- the companion shows are good/great). If I have to see Jar Jar (hate the character - feel bad for the actor who was almost driven to suicide from man baby fans who thought it was appropriate to torment the actor for playing the character) or hear the battle droids say “roger - roger" or see the wooden acting of Padme and Anikan again it would be too soon. Portman is a gifted actress, but had terrible direction or just hated the role and was trying to get through it. The end battle on the Phantom Menace was great. The Gunships were great on Attack of the clones. Before they entered the ship to rescue Palps, the space battle was great. Beyond that, terrible. |

He gave up. He quit. Only JAKE Skywalker would do those things. The real Luke Skywalker would never, ever attempt to murder his own nephew, his sister's and best friend's kid in cold blood, while his back was turned, while he was sleeping. He would never run away and hide, leaving them to die and fight a war without him. Luke would've tried anything and everything to bring his nephew back. The real, Luke, anyway. You know, like he did with his father, even though Obi-Wan and Yoda wanted Luke to fight and kill him. Luke refused, because he saw the good in him, even though Anakin had done what many would consider unforgivably evil things. What had Kylo done again when Jake considered slaughtering him like an animal? Enjoy your phony-baloney Jake Skywalker. You're not a fan of Star Wars. Nor did you understand anything you watched in the OT. Last edited by lantern48; 11-22-2019 at 04:17 PM.. |

What an awful, apologist misinterpretation. He washed his hands of everything, ran away and hid. He left his friends and family to die and fight a war without him.

I have said before “Nice Jake figure” and they’re like “who?” and then I’m like “you know Jake” and point to “Luke” and they’re just dumbfounded. It’s pretty funny ngl |

They were more concerned with trying to make people care about Rey than they were respecting the legacy characters. Quote:
“Early on I tried to write versions of the story where [Rey] is at home, her home is destroyed, and then she goes on the road and meets Luke. And then she goes and kicks the bad guy’s ass,” Arndt said. “It just never worked and I struggled with this. This was back in 2012.”
The trouble was a simple case of upstaging. “It just felt like every time Luke came in and entered the movie, he just took it over,” Arndt said. “Suddenly you didn’t care about your main character anymore because, ‘Oh f–k, Luke Skywalker’s here. I want to see what he’s going to do.’” Star Wars The Force Awakens: J.J. Abrams explains R2-D2'''s closing scene | EW.com That is why Luke is only in FA for 3-seconds at the end and doesn't speak. Not because they did the logical progression storywise with his character. And that's why he was banished to some far away place with vague details. They didn't even bother coming up with a fleshed out backstory or reasons. They left it up to Rian Johnson to figure out and he put the diarrhea icing on the shit cake. and no one cares about Rey anyway lol
Not to get political, but it also could be they didn’t want to use Luke because he is a heroic white male |
