I mean... I am sure she is a fine actress, and I wish her all the best... but is it /SO HARD/ for them to even understand the source material? Sure, it's dated, but if you wanted to have something so different, why make it GI-Joe at all?
I haven't seen a Transformers movie since 3. A Star Wars since Rogue One. And I am not seeing this. Hate to say it, I wish those rumors way back when of Disney looking to buy Hasbro having gone through; they might not be the best of hands, but darn if I don't think they at least understand their protagonists and main villains (even if the latter get underused, most often). What's the problem with the actress? That Spanish is a lot different than Eastern European?

I’m confused.

If I do see this movie, I will be removing all assumptions of it being faithful to the source material.
Expectations lowered. Problem solved. |

I just hope this is an entertaining movie that will be successful. I don't know anything about this actress, but she looks the part of an ARAH Baroness. That's a start I guess.

This is where I defended G.I.Joe Rise of Cobra in some parts. Now, don't get me wrong, ROC is not that great of a movie and several aspects of the plot were terrible, but Joe fans complained about how it differed from the "real world" G.I.Joe they grew up with. To which, I have pointed out that ROC was not a movie adaptation of the Marvel comics and even if it was there was a lot of sci-fi elements in the comics that could be seen as "source material" for ROC: nano-mite bugs (ARAH #3), underwater base (ARAH #8) and if you branch out the "source material" to include other Joe-genres then even the accelerator suits look an awful (pun intended) lot like G.I.Joe Sigma Six. I think given ROC's references to "life-like hair and a kung-fu grip," "yo Joe!" and "knowing is half the battle," we could say that the movies pull from all sorts of various G.I.Joe "source material" (12" line, G.I.Joe cartoon, etc.). So, there is a wide range of "source material" that the movies can pull from. This is the same for any other comic book movies where the movie studio doesn't focus on one particular storyline. If you have your heart set on this movie being the 1980s ARAH #26-27 Snake Eyes origin story of Snake Eyes, Stalker and Storm Shadow serving in Viet Nam in an LRRP, well all I can say is don't get your hopes up. When I watch any comic book-based movie, I enjoy the movie for what it is--an interpretation of various source materials. The movie studio pulls certain characters from the comics and then places them into their own "universe" or story for that title. Not even the Sunbow cartoons interpreted Hama's vision for G.I.Joe. He has expressed several times that he never envisioned Cobra Commander to speak with a hiss or the Baroness to have such a thick Euro-German accent. Honestly, I am just glad that there is another G.I.Joe movie being made and hope that it helps generate some much-needed life into the non-existent toyline. If Hasbro can work out the right deals, I can see where the movie could spark interest into a new cartoon series and even an online video game (my goodness can they not take a hint from Fortnite?!) As far as this actress goes, I'm not familiar with who she is, but at least she's a brunette and hopefully, she won't be required to wear a silly wig as Miller did. ;) Jason |

Ok, I guess this is where I disagree with many other Joe fans. What exactly do you mean by "source material?" Are you limiting "source material" to Marvel G.I.Joe comics of the 1980-90s? If so, then you are limiting a vast majority of G.I.Joe "source material."

This is my going to be my mantra from here on out concerning this Snake Eyes project. Being that this is G.I. JOE's last time at proving itself to be a profitable i.p. I don't even need to be something that I would like, enjoy, or least of all entertaining. Hell, I don't even need the movie to be any fucking good or stay true to the source material. As a G.I. JOE fanboy sense the age of 8 and a fan of the comic since the age of 13 all I want from this movie is it to make enough money to prove that G.I. JOE is a viable film franchise. If it does that then we can fix all of that other shit at a later date.

She certainly looks the part. I just never cared for the way the Baroness was shoehorned into Snake Eyes' origin. I'm hoping they DON'T stick religiously to the source material in this case.

She looks great to me, and as long as she has the vicious aristocratic bearing, that's ultimately the core of the character archetype as far as I am concerned.
