Just so I'm clear in what I'm speculating.
I know ZILCH about the inner working of the toy industry and manufacturing etc. BUT if I had to take a shot on what to expect here based on the toy aisles today and my experience as one who has been buying Joe toys since 82 I *IMAGINE* we *MIGHT* see this... With both Marvel and Star Wars toys and many others the popular model seems to be a line of 5POA figures that allow parents to buy some product ANY product without busting the bank. And trust me I hate the 5POA stuff and have refused to buy any of it. As a guy who grew up on Star Wars toys and am now an adult as adults we want better items. We spent years getting Joe to a point where it was a pretty damn cool line from sculpts to accessories and articulation. BUT I get the money maker is something that Hasbro can sell to parents at a reasonably affordable price point that shuts kids up. I don't like it but I get it. So I expect to see a 5POA line I could also see a 6" line. I'm not buying it because I'm not starting a new scale line collection. Sorry I know the 6" lines are popular but I have been buying 3.75 since 1982. And even THAT you've spent the good part of 12 years reselling me in 4" form so no sorry I'm not buying any new scales. Last I don't see Hasbro leaving money on the table. And if the Club proved anything its that there IS still money to be made off the fans still wanting modern version of ARAH style figures. But I imagine they will offer us something. In fact I kinda think the elimination of the Club was the first step. And expect they will be offer a similar service themselves OR will at retail (or e-retail like BBTS) offer a higher priced collector aimed product. Just a theory. |

Toys are already overpriced as it is (I wholeheartedly feel that "inflation" and "rising costs" are not as dramatic as the rise in toy prices over the last several years would suggest). I largely find the phrase "corporate greed" to be dumb, as it suggests the sole purpose of a profit seeking company should be other than to make profits, but this approaches that. When you're already overpaying for licensing and charging more and more for less and less, I don't think its good strategy to not eat at least a little of theses costs. You'd think this would be a good thing for Joe though. Hasbro could shift their focus to a licensing fee free line. And even with a tariff hike, the prices would still be better than a lot of the SW and Marvel stuff their peddling.

Well, higher prices equals less sales, so I hope they know what they are doing.

I’m confused. What do Hasbro’s manufacturing costs and toy prices have to do with G.I. Joe?
