PS: You don't send your money directly to Hasbro. You send it to the retailer, who has already paid Hasbro in advance for the toys you're buying. Quote:

They've obviously caved to the desires of what Hollywood thinks Joe should look like. Bye, bye to the memories of those who grew up with GI Joe and kept Kenner/Hasbro in business by purchasing those toys. Quote:

Multi-million dollar budgeted movies to not make a toy line successful. Remember all those Spider-Man toys clogging pegs over a year ago. Seems the movie did well but the toys stunk. Spider-Man 3 toys were considered the second most successful line for Hasbro behind Transformers that year (2007). Even bigger than Star Wars (which makes sense since 2007 was not a year with a major media tie-in for that line). Might want to rethink how well they did. Remember: Hasbro makes its' money from the retailers, not from us (a mistake you've repeated frequently in the posts quoted here). All those pegwarmers sitting on shelves? Hasbro already got paid for 'em. That's why Spider-Man 3, Indiana Jones, et al... can all be "successes" for Hasbro (As Hasbro has described them several times) and not so great for retailers (which is why they don't get picked up to continue...not that Hasbro minds, they'll just make more toys for next years' movies and the cycle repeats because retailers love movie tie-in lines). As for retreading old figures, Hasbro's been doing that with Star Wars for quite some time. Besides, Hasbro's been runnig anywhere from 2-3 Star Wars lines simultaneously for several years now. Further, G.I. Joe has not remotely approached the level of sales that Star Wars or Transformers enjoys (easily proven by the lack of shelf space for the line at most major retailers, particularly Wal-Mart). Once it's proven its popular and successful enough to warrant parallel lines, then Hasbro and the retailers can justify it to themselves. Until then, "dual lines" is a pipe dream that collectors who don't understand how retailers operate and can't accept that even the 25A line and Resolute figures were not the most popular and high-selling toys on the market use to blame Hasbro for something the retailers wouldn't let them do anyway. Put it this way: The retailers wouldn't even pick up three more waves of single-carded figures and one more wave of vehicles for the 25A/ME line six months in advance of the movie, and you think they're going to "greenlight" two separate lines? I think the overwhelming majority of the evidence points towards the opposite conclusion. Last edited by Jmacq1; 07-19-2009 at 01:27 PM.. |

Now I am sad. I wanted a re-release of the "Dome".
AF 3: Since the Rise of Cobra merchandise is going to give us an awesome PITT playset I was wondering.....What are the chances of perhaps re-releasing the original G.I. Joe headquarters and perhaps the Cobra Terror Dome as perhaps either store exclusives or even a HasbroToyShop.com exclusive? Also one of the most iconic vehicles in the G.I. Joe line was the F-14A Skystriker, is there any chance of Hasbro perhaps re-releasing this awesome toy? H 3: The Skystriker tooling is no longer available for use. The team has investigated re-releasing the Terror Dome but due to the high costs of the set, it is unlikely.

about 'if we buy enough ROC they will be more inclined to put out collector-friendly classic-type items'... they know we think about every aspect of the line... so they know if they tell us "oooh the cost is too much" we might start the whole debate of "everyone needs to buy 2 pits so we can get 1 terrordrome"

AF 1: Many fans are sad about the 25th Anniversary line being put on hiatus while the Rise of Cobra Movie merchandise hits retail. Is there any chance of the line coming back in 2010 with perhaps fan favorites such as Low-Light, Lifeline and maybe Zandar and Zarana? And are we going to see more Resolute product and a return of the Resolute Cartoon Series? H 1: There are currently no plans to bring back the 25th anniversary product, but the team is looking at how to best satisfy the collector community within the current product line. -------------------------------------------------------------- Well, thanks for playing Hasbro. Apparently "hiatus" is Hasbro for "We need to start seeing other people" or "It's not you, it's me". I mean, I knew this, it just lets me down actually hearing it. At least it saves me from buying anymore figures MOSC and for openers. Haha. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. I'm going to finish my last 10-15 customs of figures Hasbro never made, and buy the few truly vintage figures from the ROC line, but looks like I'm out soon. It was a good run, but they still had a good ways to go as far as getting cash from me, and I'm sure I'm not alone. |
