So they are going to start shooting without a director? Will they have a cast, or just have stuntmen in motion capture suites going though the motions?
If they don't have a director, then I suspect they will do an ad-lib movie like the Mockumentary movies (Spinal Tap, Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman, etc.). This just seems like an unorganized mess. I take this as another sign that the movie is not happening.

I don't know the specifics of the licensing agreement but could this be a case of "Paramount must make a GI Joe movie by a certain deadline or it loses the rights to make GI Joe movies?"
Cause it kinda feels that way. Last edited by Jmacq1; 07-15-2019 at 03:42 PM.. |

I don't know enough to know how confused I should be by this update.

See!!! This is so far from GI Joe. When they don't know, they can't have half the battle.

Hmmm. I have to agree. They just seem like they have no plan and are just rushing into everything. I just don't see how this tactic can produce a good movie.

On the positive side if the movie is going into production you can bet someone is working on concepts for the toys!

Maybe...maybe not. As we've learned in the last few years (mostly with Star Wars stuff but a little bit with Marvel and back to when GI Joe was still on shelves and making movie product) the modern timeline for movies really plays havoc with Hasbro's production schedules. It all basically depends on how much concept art is being made/approved...as that's what the toys tend to get based off of. However without a Director...who's approving concept art?

From the toy perspective, we do know Non-Hassenfeld Brothers has several years of unreleased Joe material up in RI as well as 12 years of ME molds they can exploit. They also have a decade or so of SW Black and Marvel Legends mold they may or may not be able to use.
Principle shooting is still several months out, the producers should be able to find a competent director by then. Hell, I'll do it, all I want is a few basis points off the top!
