I understand that the layoffs are bad, and I truly do feel for those who lost their jobs. But all corporations do this sort of thing. Again, not justifying what they did, but they aren't the only one that does this. Every publicly trade company has an obligation to increase profits for the shareholders. Whether that is right or wrong is debatable, but to think Hasbro is this evil corporation while ignoring other corporations is ludicrous. Do you have a vehicle, wear clothes, eat, have a cell phone, play video games, etc.? Guess what, all that stuff... made by a corporation that only cares about profit. I do understand this is a forum dedicated to toys, so hasbro is the main focus, but this isn't something new and it won't be the last time. I just think it's disingenuous that Podcasts like 3POA are licking their chops because its another chance to bad mouth hasbro with the end goal of making their brand(valaverse) look better.
You can rest assured Bobby and his cronies are going to make a meal outta this just like they did with the Haslab Engine of Vengeance. This is all under the guise of 'fighting for the little guy' when we all know in reality it's just click bait to drive viewership, promote Valaverse and feed their own bloated egos. It's sick really, using someone's recent tragedy or hardship for your own gain, ambulance chasing at its finest. Let's not get it twisted, if Bobby were still employed at Hasbro he wouldn't be saying shit. He talks all the time about how he was supposedly mortified that management wouldn't let him do so-and-so for cost reasons while he worked there, yet he was just fine going along with the program and working for an evil empire when he was getting a paycheck. He wasn't let go for digging in his heals and demanding more for the consumer, he was let go because nobody liked working with him. And now, everything he says is just sour grapes and self serving to get revenge or promote his business. Let's see if Ryan puts his money where his mouth is. You'd expect since he's so disgusted by Hasbro he'll never buy another Marvel Legends, GI Joe or Hasbro product again right? A-huh, we'll see. I bet after this all blows over they'll be buying again. If they were truly concerned and wanted to help you'd think they'd be putting together a fundraiser to help those employees rather than exploiting their hardship and helping themselves. They're dishing up what they always do, self serving garbage. Last edited by RAHChuckles; Today at 02:17 PM.. |

Exactly right. I feel for these people but this is business, it happens all over the world every day, especially when it's a publicly held company beholden to shareholders. Hasbro is no more evil than any other company we all buy product from every year. Corporations will always be profit driven, how much is morally acceptable and how much is 'greedy' will always be debatable. In the end we vote with our wallets and purchasing decisions.

2016-17 if I recall. He couldn?t work on anything or talk about his firing for two years after that. His first Kickstarter failure was 2019.

Until you get laid off, you never know what it really feels like. I've never been angry after any of mine, just disappointed, hurt, let down or surprised. And for some to suggest on here that getting laid off means you are an underperformer? NO. Maybe in some instances, but having been laid off a few times now at different companies, it almost always happens to people who are making more and the company is trying to cut costs or the company is sinking and it's the easiest way to lessen the blow when the so-called iceberg has just hit or immediately after. At least in my field of work. Maybe other fields it is based on performance? I was an employee of the month multiple times at one of the places I was laid off at. Doesn't always have to do with performance. I have also been laid off twice when the department I worked in was shut down, so it had nothing to do with work output and everything to do with the company downsizing or just deciding it did not want to do that sort of work any longer.
It also depends on the industry you work in. Being in the entertainment industry, I have to say it's really common and happens to everyone. Almost everybody I have ever worked with in post-production has been laid-off at least once.

Also to think mattel hasn't let go of people because bobby said so is asinine. Mattel laid off 2200 people in 2018 and has let go many others since then. All corporations do this, again I'm not saying its right. But its quite hypocritical to go after just Hasbro, when every corporation does this kind of crap. |

You're right, people do need stability, especially when it comes to income, but there's no job that guarantees lifetime employment. I love my job and am very fortunate to have it, but I'm under no illusion that it will last forever. Do I hope it does...of course I do, but I also know it could be gone to tomorrow. However I don't sit around worrying that one day my job might be gone. And if it does go away, I'll find something else like I always have done...and so will the employees that were let go by Hasbro.
Peepants highlights the comment below as how terrible Habro is but it kind of debunks itself. This person is understandably upset, who wouldn't be, I empathize. But people don't generally spend 13 years at an abusive company that gives them nightmares. They're doing what we all do when we're hurt, lashing out and saying 'well this place always sucked anyway', 'my ex wasn't that good looking'. ![]() There also hasn't been any talk of severance packages. If they're taking care of people with generous severance packages and thus giving them time to find other work it's way less shitty. |

Is it really abusive wondering every day if you may lose your job? Even in a union working for the city I STILL lost my job to cuts and I was highly rated on all performance reports, so I just take every day not worrying I'll lose my job AGAIN when the city decides to save more money by cutting city services once again.
You can't worry about it. I see how it is with my mom, whose job is only secure as to the results of her last physical. It sucks but this is kinda the way it is with work - you're lucky every day to have a job and not be one of the poor slobs cut. |

Dude stuck around for 13 years.
That’s not an abusive workplace. He is just salty that his number was up. He had 13 years to find another job that didn’t give him nightmares. This is the problem with ‘social media’ in todays world. It gives platforms for people to bitch and moan and harbour the negativity that creates the toxicity in fandoms. Last edited by TheFallen; Today at 06:24 PM.. |
