They need a Joe movie set in the 80s so they can fill in the Joes, Cobra in their classic ARAH attire.

My biggest concern here isn’t related to the movie- because frankly, I don’t have any hopes the film will be good. I actually expect it to be much of the same caliber as the previous films- that is, low caliber. My concern is now that we finally have another film, Hasbro will fail to bring a worthy corresponding figure line to retail. It’s a great chance to give fans an Ultimate style ARAH Scarlet for instance, but I fully expect them to drop the ball and not do it.

If they do, great... if not, meh, we're no worse off than before. So I'm going to just enjoy whatever ride we end up getting.

My hope is that Snake Eyes helps establish a new universe that can be continued in future films -- assuming the first is at least a moderate success. Third time's a charm?
The first two live-action films basically threw you into a conflict with just a touch of backstory. It was too removed from Joe canon for the fandom to relate, and too contrived for general audiences to care. I prefer the Renegades approach. It services the fans while setting the table for newcomers to become invested in the characters. |

That's all anyone really wants. Which means it'll never happen.

Where to start? Scarlet isn't the G.I. Joe's only one time female member. Ahem..
I hope the movie does well, but I think it's hard to capture a character that had a slow origin story revealed over a ten year period, which was very much pieced together by other characters. I always felt as great as Snake Eyes is, that he was more of a sleeper character, who wasn't the sole focus of the story, but a constant background story. I like my Joe's in the 80's or 90's era, but they can be just as timeless as other characters. Like many said, if they keep to the source material, I think they can do well. I hope they use the Silence Intruder story as a cue or adopt part of it to their movie. |

I hope they use the Silence Intruder story as a cue or adopt part of it to their movie. We did get Silent Interlude in Retaliation. An entire 11 minute scene. It is n't exact to the comic but it is indeed an homage to issue 21. Snake Eyes is the central character of the Marvel run. Everything after issue ten revolves around him, his comrades, Scarlett, his family, and the consequences of his actions during Vietnam and beyond. If you take Snake Eyes and put him in the center of a mind map, you can draw a line to almost any major character (in the comics) on either Cobra or the Joe's side.

Snake Eyes was indeed the central character in the Marvel comic run, as well as much of the Image/DDP run and some of the IDW runs. I am a die hard Snake Eyes fan and hope the movie does justice to the character. I do however, like the idea of storylines centering on other Joes, and Snake Eyes mainly showing up when his badass skills are needed, and then disappearing back into the shadows. Renegades used this approach to a degree.

I do hope this is a reset/reboot.
I actually started liking Bumblebee while watching it. But they tried to make it too similar to the older movies and ruined it. Could have worked as a standalone but ended up as disappointing tie-in for me. I wish it won't go the same route except for the easter eggs and nods to the comics/cartoons.
