Hi All,
Is anyone else having problems signing up for the IDW forums? I have signed up, received the email from them saying it should be active within 24 hours, now almost 30 days later, still nothing. I have emailed them three times and they are not replying. |

many folks on here are not happy with the possibility of a reboot. I know some have signed up on IDW to voice our disapproval of this, but many of us will not sign up on their boards to do it.
Anyway for us to sign a petition on this board that can be posted by one of our members who are also members on their boards? |

Eh, we could always make one, and then send them a link or something... In fact, that sounds acceptable, imho.

Well, for my first post let me say that if IDW produce GI JOE comics to the standard of some of their other franchises, I'll be dropping the title like a stone.
I consider their main TRANSFORMERS book to be an over plotted, convoluted mess of cliches, while the STAR TREK titles I've been buying have proven to be, frankly, embarassing. I mean, STAR TREK is one of the richest 'fictional universes' created yet the "Year Four" and "Alien Spotlights" IDW have put out are some of the feeblest material I've seen related to the franchise. Maybe that's just me... |

Maybe that's just me... TF is always at the top of my read pile --> I read the stuff I really like LAST. I want my reading to get progressively better, so I start with the titles that I question why I ordered them from DCBS and read down the pile to the items I'm really looking forward to. Joe is always last, and that's a good thing. TF is at the top, which means I'm on the fence about cutting it altogether. This weak TF book that costs $4 a month is my only experience with IDW, so it's VERY tough to get excited about Joe heading over there, regardless of the continuity in use. I really hope they don't go the TF route with the string-of-minis approach to Joe. That's both painful and confusing (and no, the microscopic number next to the barcode isn't sufficient). My estimation is that IDW has some good ideas on how to build reader interest, but they do not have the creative talent to follow through nor the marketing capability to keep the title selling more than 15k copies past the first few issues. I'll give the new title a fair shot out of loyalty to the franchise, but it will have to knock my socks off to get me to swallow a new continuity at $4 per month. I have about given up on TF, and it would be a shame to have to give up on Joe too. Last edited by nacho; 02-20-2008 at 11:41 AM.. |

Again, even if Garth ENNIS IS WRITING THE TITLE, I will not be buying a reboot. When they decide to revisit the universe I grew up with, I will be there.
Devil's Due deserves our continued support for giving us World War Three as the final arc.

Get on those IDW boards and support the continuity you want be it classic or upcoming. The classics need the help. Go directly to chris ryall, he's an administrator, and very helpful in helpibng you get logged on. Difficulties arise any other way, as far as i have seen.

Well, since Shin closed the petition thread, I'll post this here:

I don't think anyone considers anything DD did really an extension of the Marvel series even if it was supposed to be follow the continuity, and the Marvel series ended nearly 20 years ago, so I don't see any reason to really attempt to continue it..
Most people are hoping the movie will be as close to the original story if possible, and we're willing to accept that a "reboot" of sorts is necessary in order to make a film from as much history as the Joeverse has. But do you really want the movie to not follow the continuity already laid out? If you want to talk about reboots, Sigma6 was a reboot. It died. GI Joe Reloaded was a reboot. It died. Why mess with the storyline as we all know and love it? I definately consider the DD comics a continuation of the Marvel books, which I believe ended in 94, which was only 14 years ago, not 20, and I think the years and years of Marvel comics followed by several years of DD comics are worth keeping and continuing from. Why waste so many years? Whats the point of rewriting GI Joe? It doesn't make any sense. We love GI Joe for what it is already, why alienate people for a reboot? If they're rebooting, why not start a brand new title or line or something? That's just taking the name GI Joe and branding a different story to make use of the name.
