Uh.... 6 inch joes will solve distribution problems for Gi Joe when Marvel Legends and Black series are well documented to have major distribution troubles?

Anyone suggesting Hasbro switch to a different size rather than continue modern era 3.75" to 4" figures is trying to siphon wallets dry or prevent us from continuing to get much-needed ARAH figures in modern era form.
There's literally no need to go larger when the articulation of a 4" figure can be excellent (as proven by MTF and others, and SOME modern era Joes), level of detail can be excellent, and they are much more a direct replacement for/homage to ARAH figures that came in a similar size. I certainly won't be re-buying Joes in another size or scale. In fact, I'll just put more money into customs to get the missing figures that way and Hasbro will get no money at all from me. I agree. I think most Joe fans either collect 1/6 or 1/18 scale, and while there would be some that would go for a 6” line simply because it’s new product, I would not. I collect modern and recently started building a vintage collection, but that’s enough.

That article is a follow-up/reaction to this one published a few days ago:
G.I. JOE: THE BLACK SERIES - A PITCH TO HASBRO | Action Figure Junkies In which the writer pitches a 6" Joe line to Hasbro. The article has a few good ideas about the name of the line, a BAF Snake Armour (love the idea!) and a few other things. That said, for me, I collect 4" figures. I have no room or will to start another scale. Also, with all respect to the author of the piece, there is no way that the first wave has Stalker and Rock & Roll, but no Cobra Commander and Duke (Duke in wave 3? Just not happening unless you want the line to die after wave 1). OB

I guess larger characters like Roadblock, Gung Ho and Destro could be build a figures. With Marvel Legends it's always the larger characters that get the baf treatment. Thought this would need 6 characters in the first wave with Roadblock as the baf. So characters in the first wave would probably be Duke(torso & harness), Snake Eyes(right arm), Scarlett(left arm), Cobra Commander(right leg), Storm Shadow(left leg) & Cobra Soldier(head and 50 cal).

I keep saying this everytime I see this topic come up. I'm to vested in 4" and will not go to another scale. I MIGHT buy a Firefly but that would be it. 4" inch or nothing. I'm out.

I always held off on getting back into Joes because I was biased against the 4" scale. Now that I have dozens of modern Joes in that scale, I'm not so sure what I would think of a 6" scale.
It's a huge gamble for Hasbro to switch the scales, but if I had to bet on it, I'd say that is the future of GI Joe. Collectors will be up in arms, but boycotting the line would probably just mean no more Joes ever.

If diehard Joe collectors who adore the 3 3/4" format aren't providing enough support for Hasbro to continue their contract with the Club (so goes the rumor) then I can't see Hasbro taking a risk on a 6" figure... and at retail no less. They would probably sell a few of the top tier characters like Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow, but with no movieverse/cartoon tie in, beyond the absolute top echelon characters the line wouldn't have the support it needs to be sustained beyond an initial wave or two.

The notion that GI Joe has underperformed since 25th is just baffling to me. Since ROC ended, it’s been hard to find the toys on the shelves, and that seems more a problem of supply and distribution. But the figures that were released tended to fly off the shelves (my observation), and on the secondary market are still in demand. I’ve never understood what Hasbro would require monetarily to keep the line going. I mean, they’re toys. From my knowledge of the company’s history (very much like the Toys R Us story) the company was started out of a desire to bring enjoyment into the lives of kids. But then you have the evetual monetization of everything and shareholders start making demands and decisions, and the magic disappears. And in the case of Toys R Us - it dies. It’s sad.

It's taken me about 10 years to warm up to the modern era figures. I still only own a few. I miss the classic 3 3/4" figures. I know those don't hold up well in design compared to a lot of what's out there now but I do wish they would occasionally release some figures in this style like they periodically did in the early 2000's.
But if they were to increase the scale again, I probably wouldn't bite at all. For one, the vehicles would have to be much larger or they'd have to focus on only manufacturing smaller vehicle types. Perhaps they'd just ignore vehicles entirely. |
