Is it the market size or the price? $90 for a truck isn't cheap. The last retail vehicle I remember at that price was the ROC PITT and that didn't sell too well either. I pledged the Desert Stealth option, but I can see people being uncomfortable spending that much, when they are used to spending a 1/3 of the price for ground vehicles. The $50 option was a nice try, but it looks a bit odd without the windshield wipers and back cover. I'm not sure whose left to try to sell it to. Most of the places I frequent have already mentioned it.

As a side note, the “basic” MARV has been a relatively poor performer in the Kickstarter. It did not make much of an impact on the campaign, and actually caused a fair bit of confusion as to what was included with the higher-priced MARV reward options. It’s highly unlikely that I will offer just parts or stripped-down vehicle options in the future.
First, the accessory packs aren't directly compatible/useful for anything other than the MARV. That means you're only going to be selling those to people with a stripped-down MARV in mind or maybe to a handful of customizers who plan to chop up other vehicles to use with your turret. $50 for the MARV plus $30 for the turret...at that point just buy the $90 complete version. These a la carte options weren't really made to sell. Second, you said the stripped MARV would save on packaging costs by not being boxed. Makes sense, but then why would it cost more than the boxed complete MARV to order all of the polybagged parts and a stripped-down MARV? What happened to the savings? You're not even going to sell these a la carte options to people who might want a complete MARV but don't want the upscale packaging since it costs significantly more to buy it polybagged. Again, the options aren't selling themselves. Third (an issue you addressed later), was that the parts included with the stripped-down MARV were originally selected such that a backer would have to pledge for at least one accessory pack just to have headlights (I think it was) on their vehicle (which would be a bare minimum for a usable base vehicle). At that point, again, see the cost issue from the first point. The a la carte menu wasn't designed to be attractive, it was designed to push people into backing the full MARV (or so it appears to me). I think these are a few of the reasons the stripped-down MARV didn't move the needle for you.

I'm debating a pledge. What's holding me back is I've still got delivery of 3 kickstarters pending (Eagle Force, Dime Novel and MTF WW II) and two of those were all-ins. I had 4 just up until an hour ago when my Haslab Jabba's barge was delivered. Having so many out is what has kept me off from a couple other kickstarters too.

I'm fascinated by this whole process, and incredibly awed by your talent and design acumen, Greg. I know you have a working model of the MARV, so does that mean the molds and tools are already created? If so, and that money has been sunk, how do you recoup it? Is it feasible to go ahead with production on a small scale and sell made-to-order to try to recoup costs, or are you just burned? I hate that you would suffer in any way, given the hard work you've put in for the hobby. For me personally, the price point is just a bit too high for where I am in life and in figure-collecting. That said, I could be enticed. I'm wondering how you plan to move forward, and wish you all the best.

I hope there’s a way to obtain these on a small scale realizing they be more expensive.

Greg - I doff my cap to you sir. This undertaking was by no means a small thing. To find the time, capital and entrepreneurial fortitude to go all out - it's obvious the MARV is a labor of love. I am a huge fan of this, and if you ever decide to give it another go, I'll happily be there again to pledge at the motor pool level.

I agree. This was fantastic model and an ambitious undertaking, and hopefully it can find success in the future.

I’m sorry this didn’t go Greg. I don’t think it’s a reflection of your product and look forward to owning one someday.

Sorry too this didn't fund. I was a small-timer, just in for one, but I definitely hoped to see it succeed. I compared to the Star Wars Scarif tank regarding the price point and figured it was pretty well priced considering the lower production number.
I admit part of me was a little nervous about it because it was going to look like a behemoth next to any Joe vehicle thanks to being true 1:18 scale. As much as I've loved many of the Chinese 1:18 vehicles, I've never jumped in. Heck, even a 1:18 HMMMV is as big as the Mauler and that just doesn't look right on the shelf. I'm sure you would've had people complain about a down-sized Joe-scale version too, so not sure what the solution was. Likewise, 15% smaller probably would not have equated to 15% cheaper, so the perceived value would have taken a hit. |

Well, 3 days to go for this. I pledged for one Black one for $90. Disappointing that this hasn't gotten more love. Hats off to Greg though, it's clear he put a lot of work into this.
