The cold reality is that, while proud of his work on the franchise, he really has NEVER shown the...investment...fans and later writers have for the franchise. I DO think a "Snake Eyes" film can easily work as a stand alone AND prequel. Imagine this: The film starts with SE and Storm Shadow in a fierce dual. In taunting Snake Eyes by Storm Shadow, we are given flashbacks to his time in the military as a special forces operative. On this particular mission in Asia, he is joined by a local "informant" named Tommy Arashikage. During the mission (revealed to be against a militant force "hijacking" shipments from MARS Industries), SE saves Tommy and forges a debt (Tommy says he'll help SE if he ever needs it), but injures his vocal cords. Cut back to more of the duel between the ninjas in the "now". Storm Shadow reveals he allied with Cobra (leading to a new action sequence against Cobra Soldiers), against the wishes of his master (who also happened to favor Snake Eyes) leading to a flashback to SE's return to the states and the death of his family in a terrorist attack. Distraught, he comes to the Arashikage dojo to find purpose. Quick cuts of Storm Shadow's jealousy and arguments about a future alliance with Cobra (who promise to restore the Arashikage as a prominent power and destroy corrupt regimes) and show SE favoring the Hard Master's resistance to them. Somehow kill the Hard Master (maybe follow the Renegades version of attempted poisoning and Snake Eyes being blamed) and we return to the present dual. The final battle concludes with SE, sustaining further throat damaged from a narrowly missed sniper shot from Cobra, uses an explosion to, seemingly, kill Storm Shadow and the Cobra Attack Team, but leaving him terribly disfigured with the lost of his voice. Recovering in a military hospital in Japan, he is approached by General Abernathy, escorted by his attache (Scarlett), who offers him a special commission in a new special operations force assembled to fight the rising threat of Cobra, revealing their connection of the murders of his family. Fade to several months later, and we see (face obscured) Snake Eyes putting on his classic black combat suit. Hawk steps forward to give him a new set of dog tags revealing his new codename: Snake Eyes.

The rock has charisma and screen presence. He seems to have chemistry with other actors he works with. His range is limited I agree, but he has a lot of redeeming qualities. That said, I wouldn’t go the live action route. DC’s animated movies are done very well. The GI joe brand is dead. They should reinvigorate it like the 80’s do a few animated movies to build a following and maybe a new cartoon. Probably a lot cheaper and can build up a following before committing to a large scale live movie.

P.s. Nicolas cage is hit and miss. Some of these actors never met a part they didn’t like. Kevin Costner was the same. Some of his movies are great and others like waterworld and Robin Hood.....meh

Anybody who has a problem with Nicholas Cage needs to watch MANDY which just came out... it's like a live action HEAVY METAL episode. It's out in some theaters now and on VOD.

Is Nicolas Cage for real in this movie?
Watch Snake Eyes, Lord of War, ConAir, etc... He indeed is a good actor.

Making a solo Snake-Eyes movie is like making an El Chavo del Ocho TV series without the rest of his neighbors....just won't work.
