That's sort of what I was thinking of, although American Sniper was kind of an interesting case in that regard. I seem to recall reviewers arguing that it supported either right or left-wing politics, in line with their own respective ideological stances (or against them). There was an ambiguity to the film that seemed to lend itself to either interpretation, depending on how you wanted to look at it. Keeping that in mind, I tend to think that perhaps the best way to try and keep the G.I. Joe brand afloat story-wise, as far as future movies are concerned, would be to adapt Renegades for the big screen, since suspicion of multi-national mega-corporations seems to be one of the few remaining areas of common cultural ground between right and left-leaning Americans (plus "G.I. Joes" works much better as an ad-hoc nickname for a bunch of military fugitive vigilantes than a laboured acronym for the "Globally Integrated Joint Operations Entity," or whatever). Quote:

I would argue that the costume designs would have been more aesthetically successful if they'd been a little busier (and less monochrome), like the video game adaptation versions: Quote:

I'm not sure that I ever actually saw the "Ultimate Duke" wave at retail. I think I may have ordered an assortment from SmallJoes... :( |

I agree man! I thought the original Star Wars Trilogy was great! (especially Empire Strikes Back).

Don't know what 5 below is, so I'm assuming that there isn't one around me lol. TJMax had some good Joes for retaliation and 50th. I got a social clash 2 pack (BOTH figures had decent paint apps, unheard of!) for $3. I also got HISS Tank and Ninja Combat Cruiser for $15 each.
I almost had a flashback to TRU circa 1986 when I took this pic.

I miss picking up a GI Joe figurine at retail. Hopefully in 2020 we will see a product similar to 30th Anniversary product.

The Retaliation debacle and the retailers dumping all their inventory was one of the big factors in killing off the toy line at retail, the big name retailers had no interest in any future GI Joe product. |

I chose them as the Joetailer of the year!!!
I know, and agree with your post. Hasbro and Paramount f'ed up the toyline by making a shitty movie, then putting it on hiatus to grow it into a well formed turd. What really pisses me off was when they did re-release the toys after the movie hiatus, they put out wave 1 again. Those toys did not sell for 9 months. What made them think they were going to sell after the movie came out. They should have put out the next wave. I think I got lucky in that I did buy wave 3 ret. figs (CG, white/blue camo shock troopers/ Ult. SE) at a Walmart one time. That is the only time I found that wave at a place other than a discount store. I also got lucky in that 5 below had wave 4, and Tuesday Morning had wave 3, and we have both stores in this area. I remember burning up gas hunting for figures at those stores. It was stupid, but fun as hell. Hopefully, Hasbro has learned their lesson and gets their distribution right with the next movie toy line. There are Fans that want product. Get it to them!!!
