I was always hopeful and cautiously optimistic, but it seemed like an overextension, or perhaps a very ambitious move by Hasbro to create a cinematic universe in the vein of what Marvel's currently doing. It sounds really fun and quite exciting on paper, but...I don't necessarily think it's a model that's applicable to every stable of pop-culture properties. I think it works for Marvel, and maybe to a limited extent, DC, because they've been doing mega-crossover storylines for years...the marketability was built-in. Their respective characters and stories were ready-made for big, cinematic mash-ups. Hasbro hasn't really had that kind of model that's basically pre-planned and lends itself well to that sort of thing, outside of the occaisional crossover books between G.I. Joe and Transformers, and I think it's what they've possily been trying to do with the "Revolution" storyline, maybe to condition their target audience to the notion that Hasbro's various properties can fit together and actually play-off one another like the Marvel ones do, and to me, each individual concept their action figure lines are based on are way too unique and original to ever be forced together. I mean, I've enjoyed the occaisional G.I. Joe/Transformer crossover over the years, but...in reality, I'm not sure that's something I'd want to see on the big screen, necessarily.
Sorry...I feel like I'm being Captain Obvious here. (lol) Just thought I'd get it off my chest. I didn't realize it was something I had been internally mulling-over until just now. Back when all of this was first announced, I felt like it was too much, too soon. I won't lie...my interest was piqued, and I was interested in seeing how it would all play-out, but in all honesty, I'd rather they just focus on each individual property, making sure they carefully craft each property's respective film much like Disney's currently doing with their "Star Wars Story" films...movies that are well-made, that possibly could exist in the same universe, but they don't have to crossover with one-another.

Crap. While MASK was a disappointment, I was ecstatic when I found out Rom was coming back and really enjoyed IDW's Rom series. It (to me at least) really captured the feeling of the old Marvel series. Plus the IDW Dire Wraiths don't give me nightmares like the ones from Marvel did.
I'm guessing that those comics will have a lower chance of being renewed if they're no longer part of Hasbro's marketing plan. |

It doesn't sound like they're outright canceled. Perhaps GI Joe and Micronauts are just going to be the first movies from that roundtable to be actualized. Paramount isn't going to make all the movies at the same time. Don't get me wrong, I think tying all these properties together doesn't seem like a great idea. I suppose the fate of Rom and MASK all depend on how well GI Joe and Micronauts do.

I am disappointed to miss MASK. It could have been great. The toys could have been great.

Hasbro might be wanting to wait and see how G.I. Joe, Micronauts, D&D, and the the untitled Event movie do before they announce any other movies. So the Rom and M.A.S.K. movies will happen if those movies do well.

My thoughts exactly. Make a few solid films before you try to create your own movieverse.

Also just want to point this out. But how would they know that these movies aren't going to get made, if they aren't in the writers room anymore? I mean seeing how they left the writers room to work on other movies. So how would they know this as fact if they aren't working with Paramount or Hasbro anymore?

Well that sucks, I was really getting into MASK a few years ago, this Hasbro universe thing is proving to be a big letdown.
